Important Notes
Here are a few important reminders:
- If your child will go home a different way than usual, you will need to write a note. If I do not have a note saying they will go home a different way, I will send them home their normal way.
- Please, please make sure your child has a supply of pencils, paper, and a dry erase marker (black works best).
- Please remember, our day starts at 7:30. Students switch classes at 7:50. Every minute of our day is precious. Thank you.
- We go out to recess everyday unless it is raining, the ground is too wet, or below 32 degrees. Students without coats will not be permitted outside. Please make sure your child has on a warm coat and pants on very cold days. Thank you.
- Class pictures are Friday, January 20. These will be whole group, full body pictures. An order form went home last week.
Social Studies Notes
We began our study of North Carolina statehood. We researched and shared state symbols of North Carolina, learned how Raleigh became the state capital, explored what life was like in the beginning days of North Carolina, and discussed the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears. We will now move on to North Carolina's role in the Civil War, Reconstruction, North Carolina constitutional changes, and historical events that deeply impacted North Carolina such as the suffrage movement, World War II, and the Civil Rights Movement. We will cover a lot of American history during this time.
Science Notes
We will finish our Electricity and Magnetism unit on Tuesday, January 18 with a unit test. Our next unit will be a quick one on why we have day and night and phases of the moon. Once we finish this, we will begin our next large unit on forms of energy and light. As stated before, those students who moved from Mrs. Beck's Science class will go to her for Rocks and Minerals.
