School Spirit - Face Paint & Glitter
It's been fun watching school spirit take hold with students wearing face paint and/or glitter. However, we are unfortunately going to have to include some limitations on this trend as we've begun to note some property damage occurring as a result.
- Students may wear face paint or glitter if it is applied prior to arriving to school.
- Students may not apply face paint or glitter while at school.
- If face paint or glitter is transferred to any surfaces through incidental contact, it is our expectation that the student clean it up immediately to prevent permanent discoloration of walls, counters, or other surfaces.

September Required Instruction
September (American Founders’ Month) is an important month for Civic Literacy instruction and one of the busiest for instructional statutes. Instructional statutes are required instruction in addition to standards aligned instruction for a particular course and grade level. In their classes, our teachers will support and elevate these important instructional topics and are excited to be relaunching a districtwide Freedom Week recognition. Below you will find a list of topics and themes that are required instruction this month.
- American Founders Month-September
- Heroes’ Day, September 11 – Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, the bill requires middle school students enrolled in the civics education course and high school students enrolled in United States Government course, to receive at least 45 minutes of instruction on “9/11 Heroes’ Day” on topics involving the history and significance of September 11, 2001.
- Hispanic Heritage Month September 15th – October 15th
- Constitution Day-September 17th
- Freedom Week-September 25th – 29th

Grades 6-10 - FAST Progress Monitoring Test #1 Administration
Florida’s statewide, standardized assessments in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics have been aligned with the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.). The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), which includes VPK through grade 10 Reading and VPK through grade 8 Mathematics assessments, will be administered as a progress monitoring assessment, which students will participate in three times per year.
B.E.S.T. assessments that are not part of the FAST progress monitoring program include grades 4–10 Writing and end-of-course (EOC) assessments in Algebra 1 and Geometry.
Angeline Academy of Innovation will administer these required assessments September 12 - 23, during the school day.
Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) - Grades 8-10
The PSAT 8/9 assessment will help your child prepare for the future. It helps establish a baseline for students as they enter high school and begin preparing for college and career readiness. By taking the PSAT 8/9, your child will learn which skills he or she needs to work on for continued success when preparing for high school and ultimately college. In addition, the PSAT 8/9 will identify areas where your child excels (and may want to consider taking higher-level courses), as well as areas he or she should focus to improve academically.
It also provides students with better access to data and personalized study through the online College Board and Khan Academy, and offers a readiness baseline for the SAT. It allows online access to explore careers, majors, and schools which may align with your child’s personal interest, and provides planning tips and financial aid information.
Historically, students who take the PSAT score higher on the SAT, on average, than those who do not take the test. Please note that the PSAT 8/9 scores are not sent to colleges.
All 10th-grade students are invited to sit for the PSAT/NMSQT, the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which is an important assessment for college preparation.

Our first ever yearbook is on sale! Order your copy online using the link below. The yearbook staff is also selling business ads, which are a great way to support their work and help keep the yearbook costs lower.
After surveying local middle schools, we are not planning to sell ads for individual students until we have a senior class.
Questions about yearbooks may be directed to our yearbook sponsor, Mrs. Swain.
Flu Shot Clinic
In first period classes, students received forms to participate in an upcoming flu shot clinic. Please return completed forms to the school nurse to have your student receive a free flu shot.

5 Reasons Not to Give Your Kids Freedom on Social
I watched a documentary in which a concerned father explained in detail his terrifying experience posing as his daughter online. He discovered his teen was chatting with a stranger on social media. After reading their back-and-forth, he got very concerned for her safety. He told his daughter this isn't safe. Then, rather than cutting off all communication, he resumed the conversation himself , pretending to be his daughter. The stranger eventually invited “her” to meet. The dad went instead, with police, and confronted a person who turned out to be a predator expecting to meet a child for sex.
Too much freedom online, especially for kids on social media, is dangerous. The more we give to our kids, the more danger we potentially put them in. Still, kids think they can handle the freedom. They may even come up with convincing arguments to get you to allow more of it. Stand strong, Dad. Here are 5 reasons not to give your kids freedom on social media.
