Kirkwood Special School District
August 2021 Edition
Dear Families,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the Special School District Director for the Kirkwood School District. I am honored to have been selected to lead and work in a community with such rich tradition and high educational standards for all students. I am excited to bring my twenty years of experience in education working with students, teachers, and parents and am even more excited to start my seventh year with SSD, in Kirkwood. I work hard to ensure that I am aware of current trends in education and to continue to build my professional library of resources so that I am able to support the wide variety of needs of all students.
Outside of my career, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, walking my dog, and reading. My husband and I have one child and an overweight lab rescue, Josey. Our daughter, Delaney, just finished Kindergarten and keeps us busy driving her to soccer, piano, and gymnastics. As a family we enjoy spending time together traveling, hiking, and visiting my in-laws at their lake house.
As a parent I understand that transitioning to someone new and establishing new relationships can be scary and overwhelming at times. My goal is to make this transition as smooth as possible so that our students continue to grow. I have been meeting with teachers, administrators, and service providers getting to know about the students I have been entrusted to assist on their educational journey. Throughout the years, I will have the pleasure to get to know you and your child better, but I want to take this time to let you know that I am available to answer your questions or address your concerns as they arise.
My hope is that during our journey together you will find that I love working with administration, teachers, parents, and students to ensure that students have individualized plans that support their growth and development so that they can become independent, lifelong learners. I look forward to meeting and speaking with you in the months ahead.
My Best,
Dr. Taneal Davis
Meet your SSD Kirkwood Special Education Coordinators
Mrs. Colleen Card
I’m excited to begin year five as the special education coordinator at KHS. I feel privileged to be part of the KHS team, providing special education leadership and support to the KHS community to ensure that students of all abilities have access to individualized special education services and supports to reach their post-secondary outcomes. I started my journey in SSD in 2005 after having worked for nearly 20 years in the private sector. I’ve been married for nearly 27 years, and in my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I look forward to a great new year and continued partnership.
Ms. Bridget Duke
I am excited to join the Kirkwood team! During the 2018-19 school year, I completed my administrative internship in Kirkwood. This will be my 16th year in education. I previously worked for the Alton School District prior to moving to Special School District. When I am not working , I enjoy fishing and spending time with my eleven nieces and nephews. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year working with North Glendale, Tillman, and Nipher!

I am excited to begin my third year in Kirkwood, and my first full year as a Special Education Coordinator. I have been in special education for ten years, and have taught at the elementary and middle school levels. I completed my Masters in Education at Truman State University, and my Doctorate in Education Leadership at Maryville University. In my spare time, I like to spend time traveling with my husband and one year old, race cars on autocross courses, and read for fun. I'm looking forward to a great year at Keysor, Westchester, and NKMS.
Meet your new SSD Kirkwood Instructional Coach
Hello Kirkwood Community!
My name is Shelly Everson, and I am thrilled to join the district as the new instructional coach. The 2021-22 school year will mark my 21st year in education. I began my career as a paraprofessional, then as an ABA team member in the Clayton School District. For the past 17 years I taught at Rockwood South Middle as a resource and self-contained teacher.
Not only am I an educator, but also a wife and mother. My husband is also in education, and we recently celebrated our 21st anniversary. We have a son entering his freshman year of high school, so during the school year we are a busy family between sports, marching band and toting a teen around.
Human skills are among my greatest strengths and consistent with the desire to help others or serve as an arbitrator. I believe in empowering the talents of all team members and value the principle of doing what is right and treating others in a caring way.
I cannot wait to meet everyone and excited to grow and glow together!
