Day 9 Objective

Students will use dimes, nickels, and pennies to produce an amount given by counting the coins out loud to the teacher for the given amount.


  1. Anticipatory Set
  2. The teacher will give students a set of dimes, nickels, and pennies.
  3. Students will be given a picture of a food item from a weekly grocery advertisement.
  4. Students will count the dimes by 10's, nickels by 5's, and then add on the pennies, counting by 1's, to find a number of coins that match the amount for the food item in the picture.
  5. Students will practice counting different amounts of dimes, nickels, and pennies to find coins needed to match the amount for 3 different food items in the advertisement.
