Principal's Weekly Update
Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center
December 22, 2023
Principal's Update
On December 6th, Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center held our annual open house where we welcomed prospective students, families, and members of the community. The night was an enjoyable exploration of the Western Center’s programs and facilities. Our guests were free to visit multiple career and technical areas, engage with our program instructors, and partake in activities led by current students who volunteered their time to show off their skills and enthusiasm for their program of study. We would like to thank everyone who attended and remind you that the student application for the 2024-2025 school year is now open! The deadline to apply is March 15, 2024. An application is not required for current students.
We are looking for substitute teachers. We have a great work environment and can be flexible with your hours. Please contact us at 610-489-7272 x 200 for more details.
On a personal note, I am so thankful for the opportunity to become the Principal of the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center. Over the last two months, I have enjoyed getting to know many of the school community members, exploring our programs, and working with such amazing students. I am excited to see what the rest of the school year has in store!
Happy Holidays,
Principal Robinson

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
by Caia Englert
This week, we’ll be taking a look at the Commercial Arts Program.
Take a look at some of our student’s amazing work up close!
Peyton McAveney
Peyton McAveney is a Pottsgrove senior in the Commercial Arts program at tech. Peyton mainly focuses on stylistic realism and charcoal pieces. After graduating from tech, she plans on going to Millersville, where she has already been offered the EPPIIC scholarship for her excellent grades and portfolio. For now, she works at the Railroad Street Bar and Grill, hangs out with her friends, and sketches in her free time.
Tyler Kulp
Tyler Kulp is an Upper-Perk Senior. He joined Freshman year after he attended informational assemblies from his school. He’s always been creative, and he’s thankful that tech gives him an outlet to experiment with a wide range of art mediums, both digitally and traditionally. His post-graduation plan is to go to Kutztown University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design. He cites the program’s laid-back and friendly atmosphere for fostering his excellence in the field.
Alexis Carboni
Alexis Carboni, a Spring-Ford senior, joined her Sophomore year. She loves art, specifically photography and traditional art. She uses her art to express herself, citing art as an incredible source of relaxation. Outside of school, she does track and field, draws, and hangs out with family. After she completes this year, she plans to go to community college, then focus in Art Therapy.

Lost and Found
If an item has been lost or misplaced, it might be in Lost and Found in the Student Services office. These items may have been left on the bus, in our cafeteria or a classroom. Stop by to see if anything belongs to you.
If you've lost something, check it out!
From the Nurse's Office
If a student tests positive for COVID the CDC, as well as WMCTC, recommends staying home for 5 days after your symptom start date. Your symptom start date is considered day zero. If symptoms improve by day 5 and you are fever free for 24 hours with no fever reducing medications you may return to school on day 6 (ex: symptoms start on 9/1, isolate from, 9/1 through 9/6, may return to school on 9/7 if above criteria are met).
Please let the WMCTC nurse (DDavison@WesternCenter.org) as well as WMCTC attendance (attendance@westerncenter.org) know the student is positive and will be out.
If a household family member tests positive for COVID but the student is completely symptom free, the student may come to school.
**********************************************************************************************
When a student isn't feeling well, he/she needs to visit the nurse for consultation. If a student contacts their parents without seeing the nurse, the student will still need to see Ms. Davison before dismissal.
FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE
SOAR Credit Opportunity
Seniors need to have 3 things in place to be awarded SOAR credits.
-Score overall Competent or Advanced on NOCTI testing
-Have a final cumulative GPA of 2.75 in your technical area
-Have a completed task list with all tasks marked at proficiency level
(SOAR does not include Cosmetology and Sports Medicine programs).
Students meeting these requirements will be mailed home all paperwork needed for SOAR credits. These credits are good for 16 months after graduation. Students refer to collegetransfer.net for participating schools.
What if I do not qualify for SOAR or my school is not connected to SOAR?
Take anything you have completed/earned from WMCTC (Certifications/NOCTI results/task list) to your school of interest. See if they will award any advance credit or allow you to test out of class. BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE.
