Miss Courtney and Miss Amy's Class
This Week
Our elf finally arrived from the North Pole! Buttercup joined us on Monday afternoon with a nice note, reminding us we have to be good boys and girls in school and at home.
Monday, we also had a really long choice time but it was so much fun! With Miss Courtney and Miss Jean we were working on presents to add to our chimney in the hallway. We had a fun game seeing who could jump the highest! Some of the boys were doing floor puzzles independently! They were so proud of themselves as they finished them. Some friends chose to read in the bean bags. Miss Becky had a group working on alphabet letters and sounds. Miss Amy and Miss Tam helped kids with their light bulb paintings at the easel. It was so busy but so much active learning! Miss Becky read us a story called The Smells of Christmas. We got to smell all the scents that the kids might smell around this time of the year. We smelled cinnamon, peppermint, gingerbread, orange peels, pine cones, evergreen tree branches and an apple pie! Next week we are hoping to get to taste some of these things! After snack, we were all feeling a little excited so to calm our bodies we did some yoga with a silly to calm video. It was a packed day but it was a really good one!
Tuesday was equally as fun. We came in and did some light bulb painting with spoons! It is so fun to use different tools to paint! We also practiced writing our names and doing mat man. Some friends did cutting with Miss Kelly to practice our snipping. Next class goal with Miss Kelly is to get everyone drawing Mat Man so that we all remember all the body parts when we draw people! After choice time, we practiced our holiday show! We actually got to use Jingle Bells and learned where we are going to be standing. The kids are getting so good at the songs! We are so proud of them! After show practice, we painted a pine cone to look like an evergreen tree. We will be adding decorations to it later in the week! We had snack and then Miss Kara came in and did a fun lesson with rolling and kicking balls to knock down bowling pins! At the end of the day we use the SmartBoard to play a gingerbread game. We picked the parts of the body to put on the gingerbread boy and then changed the color of his eyes, nose and buttons. We love getting to use technology (when it works!)
Wednesday was another busy day in preschool! We started choice time with coloring a face for our Santa project that we were making on Thursday. We practiced our show all together and the kids are getting so good at it! After we practiced our snack and read a story, we had a little time to play in our centers! Then, we went into Mrs. Strohl's class to learn a new fun song and played a fun game with her kids! We had a great day!
On Thursday, the kids had a productive fine motor choice time. Some friends finished coloring their Santa faces. Everyone had a chance to add his red hat, eyes, and nose. Some friends practiced name writing and drawing on the easels. Some kids chose to practice cutting and making robots, presents, and Christmas tress. After choice time, we practiced our show. Have we mentioned how great they are? Just wait until you see next week! After show practice, we read a story about Santa's sled. We then used white paint and lots of cool tools to make white beards on Santa! It was a lot of fun! Then, we had snack and transitioned into centers. We had Santa's Workshop open, kitchen, books, and decorating! The kids were so well behaved, we were so excited!
During choice time on Friday we did coloring at the table, Alphabet boxes, and made a car ramp with cube chairs! Miss Kelly did a lesson about Mat Man and got us all excited because she told us next week we are going to learn how to draw him all by ourselves! We had art with Mrs. Nice and then had snack. We had plenty of time for fun centers as well!
Overall it was a really happy week!
