Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
Can you believe it is almost MAY! We have a lot happening at SMGCS!
The Stephen Breen Spirit Games is 1 week away! Please see the information below about how to sign up. We are looking for volunteers to work the booth and students to participate in the closing ceremony. All volunteers will earn DOUBLE Spirit hours (adults) or Service hours (students). Make plans to join us for faith, fellowship, and fun!
Students may wear their Spirit Game T-Shirts with uniform bottoms every day this week, except Wednesday because of Mass.
Our Boosterthon is Friday, May 6, 2022. Students in Grades PreK-4 will take part in the Trojan Trot. Students in grades 5-8 will participate in the Trojan Color Run. Our goal is to raise $11,000 for tuition assistance. If we reach this goal, Mrs. Vasquez and I will be slimed! This is also a 12:15 PM Dismissal day.
May Crowning will be Tuesday, May 10th at 10:00 AM in the Church. Please send your student with a flower to give Mary. Parents are welcome to attend.
Don't forget that Yearbook ads are on sale until May 15th. This is a great way to celebrate our 8th-grade graduates and 2nd-grade students making their First Communion or to advertise your business. The link to order is in this edition of the Trojan Times.
Please pray for our SMGCS Teachers.
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Amy Utendorf, M.Ed.

First Grade Poetry Slam Invitation - April 28th
First grade parents are invited to a special event being held Thursday April 28th at 12:00 p.m. in the SMGCS Library. First grade is presenting a "Poetry Slam" where they will be reading poems they have each selected. Please make plans to join us.
This performance is for a small crowd of parents. However, if neither of a student’s parents can attend, a grandparent may come in their stead so that he or she can have a family member present. We understand if you have younger siblings that you need to bring with you. Siblings need to remain with you at all times and you will need to step out if they become a distraction or are upset. You can begin checking in to the office at 11:45 before heading to the Library. Please reply with the name of those parents attending by noon on Wednesday, April 27. Mrs. Martinez will pre-print Visitor Badges for those who are already in our system.
I'm so excited to welcome you in person to this fun event. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Last Week at SMGCS
The Return of the Alleluia at Easter
The practice of burying the Alleluia enriches and shapes prayer and the sense of discipline as Easter is anticipated. It is a kind of fasting— letting the “Alleluia” lie dormant before the burst of joyful affirmation of the Resurrection.
The return of the Alleluia comes triumphantly at the Easter Vigil, on the evening of Holy Saturday after sunset, when the priest chants a triple Alleluia before he reads the Gospel, and everyone present responds with a triple Alleluia. https://www.saintpats.org/parish/lent/
Pre-K Picasso Art

Octave of Easter
To celebrate the Octave of Easter, we had a Crazy Sock day and showed cartoons during lunch.
The Octave of Easter is the eight-day period, or octave, that begins on Easter and ends with the following Sunday. In Christian churches that celebrate it, it marks the beginning of Eastertide. The first seven of these eight days are also collectively known as Easter Week.
