Virtually This Week at St. JPII
This week, we are posting the times that teachers will be live with their lessons. This is to help to create awareness of when students can log in to connect with their teachers. It is important to note that it is NOT mandatory that students are attending the classes at the time they are scheduled. We understand that everyone is working on a different schedule right now. The live sessions will be recorded and posted once they are completed. This will ensure that students can do their schoolwork at a time that is convenient for them and their families.
If there are any changes to the schedule, these will be communicated to you by the classroom teacher through Google classroom. Teachers will continue to be available throughout the day, so if you have questions for them outside of the posted live sessions, you can contact them by email or through the Google classroom.

3rd Week of Easter
In this third week of the Easter Season, we are reflecting upon how the graces of Easter are received in our hearts and what it means for our daily journey.
We grow in a sense that Easter is not simply a one day celebration. We celebrate Easter every Sunday. But, this is a season which lets us enter more deeply into the joy and the acceptance of the great gift of life everlasting.
These daily prayers help us ask for the graces we desire and to speak with our Lord, friend to friend. We get a window into the early faith community's announcement of and witness to the good news of the gift of eternal life. We listen to Jesus talking about himself, and the way he gives himself to us, as the bread that gives and nourishes that life.
Our daily prayer and reflection in this season helps us deepen our joy and gratitude and helps us integrate it into our lives.
Today's Gospel tells of 2 apostles who are on the road to Emmaus when they are joined by Jesus although they do not recognize Him at the time. When pressed, they tell of all that has happened and how they are so lost without Jesus there. It is not until the end of the day when they sit to eat and Jesus breaks bread with them that they realize who they are with. With this realization, the apostles are reaffirmed and go back to the others to tell of the events leading up to knowing Jesus once more.
This is the same for us as well. We know that we are made in the image and likeness of God and that Jesus is at work in our life each and every day but we often do not see Him there as we focus on the challenges and concerns we are faced with. Especially during this time of isolation. With this new situation, we are forced further away from the sacrament that unites us each time we attend the mass. In Luke’s account, the two disciples were feeling bereft at the loss of Jesus but after they recognized him through the breaking of the bread, they realized he was still with them. That’s true today. Jesus has not abandoned us. He’s present in his living Body to help us cope with our hardships.
May this time of separation from receiving the Eucharist increase our love of the sacrament and the communities in which we receive it. May we remember that this Body knows no borders and that at the end of every Eucharistic celebration we are admonished to “go forth to love and serve the world and one another.”
It’s up to us to bring our identity with the Body of Christ to life and not to leave it at the church door – that is when we can finally return to entering those doors!
God Bless each of you during this time.
Please take time to pray for all the blessings we have been given and especially those who are struggling during this trying time. You are all in our prayers as we await the chance to be together in community physically once again.

Moving Forward With Assessment - Information for Parents
As we continue to work towards a balance between assessment that has already been completed while students were at school and assessment of online/home learning, we wanted to share with you how teachers will be assessing their students for the remainder of the year.
Teachers will continue to choose outcomes from the curriculum which will connect to the work that your child is completing at home. They will provide feedback to students in order to support their growth.
In classes where teachers are using PowerSchool to record students' marks, the Gradebooks will be kept up to date. You can check this on a regular basis, as the marks will be visible to you. The marks will all be formative, which means that they will inform you and your child about their understanding of what they are learning, but will NOT influence their grade.
In classes where final exams were scheduled, the decision has been made to focus on the content that will prepare students for their upcoming school year, rather than a review of the current school year. Therefore, during the final week of school, teachers will forgo final exams and continue with regular instruction.
We hope that this helps to answer some questions you or your child may have had regarding their marks this year. If you have further questions, please email your child's teacher.

Service Delivery
Each school is staffed with a Family Wellness Worker (FWW), who works under the direction of their School Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Faith & Wellness. FWW's receive clinical guidance from a Registered Psychologist.
The primary function of the Family Wellness team is to provide social and emotional support to students and families. Family Wellness Workers meet with students and parents to assess needs, set goals, identify required supports, and plan appropriate interventions.
They collaborate with school system staff and community resources to build a “village” of support around students/families who are struggling.
Referrals
Parental consent is required for FWW services.
Referrals to the Family Wellness Program may be made by students, parents/guardians, school administration, teachers, or other school staff (e.g. school counsellor or collaborative response coordinator).
Parents and guardians can access these services by speaking with the Principal or contacting the school's Family Wellness Worker directly.
