Technology Double Shot!

A Double Shot of Technology Information Every Tuesday

This Week's Barista: Joshua Nelson

This day in history: May 10th

On May 10, 1869, a golden spike was driven at Promontory, Utah, marking the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the United States.

In the spirit of the transcontinental railroad's completion, I hope we can use the internet to bridge a great divide. I am talking about the game of Jinx. It is a silly game that involves yelling "Jinx" when you say the same word at the same time as someone else.

If you think about it, when you say the same word at the same time as someone else, it is pretty special. Saying the same word at the same time should be a reminder of our shared humanity, and thus a hug seems so much more appropriate than yelling “Jix!” and turning it into a competition. Let’s rewrite the weird rules of the game “Jinx” to include a hug, and it shouldn’t be a competition, either. Just hug people with whom you shared a moment. #HugsNotJinx #JinxYouOweMeAHug

This research looked into how non-programmers' attacked programming problems to help with future programming language development. It also means that we need to be teaching programming. Like srsly.
