Readvolution
Readvolution - In recognition of the 20th Anniversary of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Wake County Public School System’s Strategic Plan Vision 2020, we will be partnering to bring Readvolution to all of our elementary schools. This partnership will support a community-wide literacy campaign around daily reading outside of school. The event has a start date in schools of October 2nd and an end date of January 12, 2018. Your child will be able to be part of this event by reading daily for 20 minutes! A parent letter describing this initiative can be found HERE and an instructional flyer that shows you how to log your reading time can be found HERE.

Superintendent Search
On November 21, 2017, Dr. James Merrill announced his retirement as superintendent of Wake County Public School System, effective Feb. 1, 2018.
The Wake County Board of Education voted on December 5 to hire the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) to help facilitate the search for our next superintendent. To that end, the board is seeking direct input from interested members of the staff and community to help shape the search process and assist in defining the qualities and characteristics of the next WCPSS superintendent. For more information regarding how you can provide input, please visit the following link - https://www.wcpss.net/Page/33727
Student Assignment Updates
On Tuesday evening, the Board of Education approved the 2018-2019 Student Enrollment Plan with the exception of the moves related to opening Buckhorn Creek ES. Buckhorn Creek ES and the related school moves for that attendance area will be finalized on December 19th.
The address lookup feature found HERE is a good resource if you have any questions about if/how you are affected by this plan.
Any student with a base school that is on the traditional calendar may apply to attend a designated year round school for their address during the Magnet/Year Round Application Period (Jan. 10-31)
Rising 5th grade students only will be able to grandfather back to their previous school and their siblings will be able to join them but for 1 year only. All grandfathered students will be approved, but without district bus transportation, if the request is made during the Request for Transfer Period (Feb. 20-Mar. 6)

Calling All Talent
Just as soon as we enter the New Year, it will be time to register for the 2018 HSES Talent Show, "Cheetahs Got Talent". We hope students will use the winter break to work on their acts, which could include dance, vocal, musical, comedy, magic, or other types of live performances. If music is incorporated, please pick at least 2 songs, in order to avoid a duplication of acts.
This year we will be registering for Talent Show via our website at http://hsesncpta.wixsite.com/hsespta. We have limited spots, so read carefully how to register your Cheetah.
