CROSS COUNTRY FOR YOUTH
Cross-Country for Youth (CCFY) is a unique fitness program that introduces young people to cross-country training and character-building concepts to develop the whole person. CCFY programming takes place twice a week. A typical day of activities begins with a general introduction, the character focus of the day, an overview of cross-country principles and continue with stretching, a group run and wrap-up exercises. The character development concepts include Integrity, Respect, Sportsmanship, Responsibility, Perseverance, Teamwork, Commitment, Courage, Discipline and Leadership.
Each character trait activity is accompanied by a key message delivered by community stakeholders and screened volunteers. Key messages include topics such as Perseverance. One specific Commitment key messages discusses that at 211º water is hot, but at 212 degrees it boils and creates steam and steam can power a train. So, that one extra degree makes all the difference. Commitment can give you that extra leverage to succeed.
The youth will also participate in cross-country meets against youth in other elementary and middle schools in Charlotte, Huntersville and the culminating event, which is the Footlocker Regional competition is comprised of youth from 15 States in the Southeast.
Learn more about the program and register here. Scholarships are available! Download a form here. More info in the video below!

Rugby Club coming Winter 2017
WANT TO GIVE RUGBY A TRY?
Quail Hollow Middle School is featuring a new club Rugby team starting Winter 2017. This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking for a sport that ‘fits.’ QHMS Rugby won the NC Middle School Rugby State Championship in 2012-2013. We are looking for a repeat.
QHMS Rugby will have no ‘cuts’ since there is room on the team for everyone (including girls). We need kids who can kick, kids who can run, kids who learn fast and think on their feet, and kids who like to have fun! Rugby is a fast-paced sport which rewards speed, courage, fitness, and teamwork. Rugby players will learn specific rugby skills including how to tackle safely. Coach David Hawkins coached at QHMS during their championship season and has most recently coached rugby across the street at South Meck High School for 3 years. He brings almost 30 years of rugby experience and loves the sport of rugby.

Hearing and Screening Notice
The speech-language pathologist (SLP) will conduct hearing screenings on any student suspected of having hearing problems, and/or those students new to CMS. A hearing screening can be requested by a parent, teacher or student. If a student fails two consecutive hearing screenings with the SLP, he/she will be referred to the school audiologist for a free hearing evaluation. Parents must sign a "Consent for Hearing Evaluation" form, prior to student contact with the audiologist. Parents who want their student to opt out of these hearing screening procedures, must communicate this in writing to the attention of the SLP. All questions regarding hearing screening procedures can be emailed to the SLP at Terrin.Pigatt@cms.k12.nc.us.
