A Message From Mrs. Heckenlaible....
Longfellow Parent Teacher Conferences:
This night is a wonderful opportunity for parents to visit with teachers in regard to their child/ren’s progress. It allows teachers a chance to celebrate their students’ successes and showcase their many educational talents. It also provides an opportunity to discuss educational strategies for parents to assist their children with at home. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have not received your conference time slot. Thank you in advance for attending! Conferences: Thursday, February 3, from 3:30-8:45 pm

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences.....who cares?
Attending conferences (in person or a phone call) shows your children that you care about their education. They spend 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, about 20 days a month in our presence. We are a HUGE part of their lives. Please, show your kids that it all matters! Take 15 minutes out of your life, two times a year, to hear about where they are succeeding and where they can improve. Let us brag about your kiddo!
How Do I Know If School Is Called Off?
- Listen to the local radio stations.
- Watch the news or weather crawler on television.
- Visit the television station website for school late starts, early dismissals or closings.
- Sign up for school notifications by texting YES to 87569.
Please know that if school is called off, there will not be anyone at the building and your child will not be able to get inside. Please make sure you are aware of any cancelations or late starts before you drop off your child(ren).

Habits of Mind
- Striving for Accuracy - Take pride in your work by doing a good job. Does doing good mean being perfect? Of course not. School is for making mistakes and learning! However, don't rush through an assignment just to get it out of the way. Take your time. Make sure you've answered each question to the best of your ability. Is your writing nice and neat? Did you erase your doodles or wrong answers?
- Questioning & Posing Problems - Ask questions! Learn from the questions of others. "Why does the hair on my head grow faster than the hair on my arms or legs?" "Why does seeing another person yawn, make me yawn?" "What's another way to find that math answer?" Questions help us learn. Effective questioners become problem solvers. Effective problem solvers ask questions to fill in the gaps between what they know, and what they don't know.

100 Days Smarter!!
While these bright young people are learning reading, writing and arithmetic, they are also learning impulse control, the rewards of a job well-done and the disappointment of being unprepared. They are learning about friendships and sticking up for each other. They learn that everyone is different and they need to work with all personality types.
We hope you know, as you send your children to us each day, that they are loved and valued for the individuals they are. We are honored to have a role in shaping who they will become.
