Big picture

From Principal Hammond

Dear Families,

The RES staff members are looking forward to meeting with you virtually next week for parent-teacher conferences. Mr. Amodio and I are available during the week as well if you would like to reach out to us.

We are grateful that we are able to continue to work with your children in this current learning format. Stay healthy and thank you for continuing to remind your child of the importance of healthy habits and mask wearing.

In continued partnership,

Natalie Hammond

Zoom Transition Updates

Technology Expectations & Guidelines

As we make the shift to Zoom, we thought it would be a good time to review our technology guidelines and expectations to ensure students are practicing digital citizenship and remaining engaged in their learning from home. Families are asked to help their student(s):

  • Identify a place in your home for distance learning work. It can be distracting if students are logging in while riding in a car, at the grocery store or in another location.

  • The learning space should be free of distractions (siblings, toys, pets, etc.).

  • Students must keep their screen name as their first and last name to be admitted into the live Zoom session. Click here for more information.

  • Students remain on MUTE, unless they are participating in a lesson.

  • Student cameras must remain ON during the duration of the live stream - this will provide an opportunity for the teacher to engage the child in the learning experience from home. If a student’s video camera is turned off during a live stream, we will consider them to be absent from the session.

  • Zoom links must not be shared with others outside of the classroom.

Virtual Veterans Day 2020

We look forward to honoring our veterans at school next Wednesday! We ask that you have your child wear the colors red, white and/or blue to help us celebrate. Stay tuned for information regarding our pre-recorded Veterans Day 2020 celebration!

Important Reminders

Arrival & Dismissal

Parents/Guardians who are dropping off students in the morning, or picking up students in the afternoon are asked to remain in their vehicles during this process. We will have staff on hand ready to support during these transition times. If you are dropping off your child in the morning please be sure their mask is on and backpack is ready BEFORE you pull up to the drop off location, so that we can quickly and safely transition kids out of vehicles and into the building.

RES Visitors

Due to the current health and safety precautions in place, we are limiting visitors in our building to essential business only. If you need to come to the school to pick up your child, please be sure you have a government issued ID on you for entry each and every time. Even if we recognize you, we will ask for your ID. This is our policy.

Traffic Safety

Please be reminded to follow all traffic rules while driving in our parking lots and around RES, including stopping at stop signs and adhering to the speed limit. Cars may not travel into the bus loop during arrival and dismissal.

School Dismissal Manager

If there are changes to your child's dismissal plans, remember to log in to School Dismissal Manager to update with the new plans. A reminder that 'bus' is the default for all students. Distribution of a student pick up number tag, or the data from the summer survey does not automatically inform us that your child is a pick up.

DROP OFF SAFETY

Please be mindful that there are students being dropped off for classes other than just PreSchool at the far side of the building. There are attempts to make 3 point turns in the middle of the driveway. This is causing vehicles to back into the vestibule entry location, which is VERY dangerous with the students and staff entering that doorway. THANK YOU.

NEWS FROM OUR HEALTH OFFICE

Health Office Reminders

Welcome November!

Face Coverings & Clothing:The students continue to do an excellent job wearing their face coverings and washing their hands. Please continue to pack an extra mask in backpacks. Also remember with the colder weather arriving to send a hat and gloves and warm coat; we will go outside for recess when the weather permits and we do not have extra clothing and boots in the health office.

Absences and Illness: If you keep your child home on a school day, please make sure you are filling out School Dismissal Manager. Be as specific as you can (temperature, sore throat, headache, etc.) versus “sick” or “illness”; please be sure to include if they have a fever or not. In addition, it is imperative that you are following the Daily Home Screening for Students, including daily temperature checks before school. If your child is exhibiting any of the symptoms listed in section 1, please follow the steps accordingly. Documentation MUST be received by the nurse before a student can return to in person learning.

Thank you all for keeping our school community healthy and safe.

For questions or concerns or to report absence/illness please contact Nurse Jen Connolly directly at 203-938-2519 ext. 309 or email at jconnolly@er9.org
