Greetings Colt Community!
I hope everyone in our community is doing well. We are up and rolling with our routines and our kids have really settled into school. I do not have too much to discuss at this time from a campus standpoint, but I do have some reminders about some carpool safety concerns to raise to your attention.
The southern side street to us, Mosswood Drive, is a growing concern of mine. Many parents use this street as an alternate to our carpool lane. In doing so, there are parents not following the rules of the road, and blocking our neighbors during the morning and the afternoon. This becomes a very dangerous side street out of my ability to direct and guide despite being asked over and over to do so. I am of the opinion that if you are "walking up" to school to pick your child up, you are really walking from your home and not a parked car nearby. If you drive to the school to pick up, you should get into the carpool line and allow us to safely load your child. I know that there is a wait, but we are fairly efficient when everyone follows the system. If you are a parent that frequently uses the side street, please consider making this change for all of our kids to stay safe and our parents to stay sane and kind to one another. I understand that it can get quite heated with one another and it makes me sad that our children may be witnessing these exchanges with our fellow Colt families.
Safety concern number two is the carpool lane and students getting out of the cars. We'd really love your help in getting our kids to be able to exit out the right hand, driver side of the car. That allows us to stay up on the curb to assist your child, and the traffic to continue to flow with cars passing to the left. When kiddos exit out of the left, we really want to escort them as it is a passing lane. If you are not able to open a right hand, passenger side door for your child to exit, please consider parking and walking them across the crosswalk. The morning seems more problematic as our safety patrol assists and we simply will not allow them to step into the carpool lane to assist left hand, driver side exits due to the concerns listed above. In the afternoon, we have more adults to help and can more readily walk children to the left side of the vehicle. We appreciate you helping us with this request.
