Book Fair!

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

  • Set the example. Let children see you read.
  • Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep
up with changing tastes and reading skills.
  • Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books
    to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Book Fair dates: December 3-9

Shopping hours: 7:30AM-4PM school days and 8AM-noon on Saturday, December 7 for Sweets with Santa

Two NEW shopping options! Book Fair eWallet is a safe and convenient digital payment option for your student to shop the Fair cash-free. If you’re not able to attend the Fair, try our new online shopping. We’ve partnered with the Scholastic Store to offer over 6,000 products that ship direct to home (with free shipping on book-only orders of $25 or more)! Visit our homepage to get started:

We hope to see you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

Advent Service Project #1

The service project we did last year was so appreciated, that we’ve been asked to do it again. So, we will be filling pillowcases with items for the homeless and distributing them on December 15. Please consider donating one of the following items between now and December 13:

  • A new pillowcase
  • Blankets
  • Socks
  • Toiletries
  • Bandanas
  • Caps
  • Scarves
  • Small bottles of mosquito repellant

Advent Service Project #2

This Advent season, the students at St. Joseph will be writing letters to benefit the Make-A-Wish organization. For every letter received, Macys will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish. The students will be writing the letters in school the week after Thanksgiving break. Topics may include a letter to Santa Claus, a persuasive letter explaining why the child is on the nice list, or “what magic means to me and my magical holiday wish.” The older students will help the preschool students with this writing. The letters will be delivered to Macys on December 12. This will help to fulfill the Make-A-Wish mission, “Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Save the Date!

Our concert choir will be singing the National Anthem at the Lakeland Tropics game on January 25, 2020. This will be a televised game, and the owner of the team wants to have the stands packed with SJCS people.

Hurricane Make-Up Days

Our hurricane make-up days will be on December 5th and January 9th. These days are currently scheduled at 12:00 dismissal days. They will now be full days of school. These two days plus the 12:00 dismissal day in September that was changed to a full day will give us enough instructional hours to make-up for the two hurricane days we were off.

Grandparents Day – Save the Date

Grandparents Day will be on Friday, January 31! SJCS loves our grandparents!

Sweets with Santa needs your help!

O Blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of Mary, the virgin Mother of God, I choose you this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor you all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly ask you to receive me as your client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death.
