Cougar Connection

May 2022

A Message from Mrs. Clements

Wow! I can not believe it is already May! What an amazing year it has been! In just a few short weeks, we will be sending our favorite little people out the doors of Keith Elementary for the last time in the 2021-22 school year. As of today, we have spent 146 days learning, laughing, and growing together! We only have 19 days left, so let's make them AWESOME!

We have many special events packed into those 19 days, so be sure to check out the calendar below. One big event coming up is our state-required STAAR test for grades 3-5. That week, we will have no visitors on campus in order to comply with state requirements for test security. Our students are ready to show off all the tremendous learning they have been doing this year!

We also have several FUN events coming up! Our Daddy & Daughter Dance, 5th-grade day, Senior & 5th-grade clap outs, and "In It to Win It" are just a few of the ways we will this month A"May"zing! We are still collecting donations for "In it to Win It," so please feel free to send in fun items such as games, toys, balls, and stuffed animals!

Around this time of year, we begin to get many questions about next year. For the next few months, we will be building and revising the homerooms for the 2022-23 school year. We will send out emails in August informing parents of their child's homeroom teacher. We will also share information about Meet the Teacher in early August.

Additionally, you should have received an email from the district informing you of our student hours change for next year. This change (posted below) will help to accommodate four tiers of bus transportation that are needed due to the nationwide shortage of bus drivers.

Lastly, our school supply lists for the next school year are posted below for your reference.

Thank you again for making my first year as Principal of Keith Elementary so memorable! I am truly blessed to lead the BEST school in CFISD!

All my best,

Mrs. Clements

Team Spotlight

Kinder, PK, Early Childhood

When deciding which teams to spotlight this month, I decided to focus on the teams that work with our youngest Cougars together. It takes a special person to be able to manage 20+ four and five year olds all at the same time! Each of these staff members truly has a heart for kids and a passion to inspire a love of learning!

The unique thing about this age group is that since it is the child's first year in elementary school, we not only teach them their letters, sounds, and numbers, we also get to be the ones to teach them how to act in school. The amazing staff members teach the students how to maneuver the building, take turns participating in classroom discussions, and communicate with words instead of their hands when they experience big emotions. As you can imagine, this is no easy task, but our fantastic primary teachers are up to the challenge!

LIFE Skills & Speech Pathologists

We are fortunate to have a LIFE Skills program on campus for students who need extra support with their learning. The staff who work in our LIFE skills classrooms are dedicated and passionate about working with students who have disabilities. To teach students in LIFE skills, teachers must have specialized certification in the area of special education. We also have two speech pathologists on campus who work with our students with communication disorders. They provide speech therapy to students who qualify for special education services. We have the finest special education teachers, speech pathologists, and paraprofessionals in CFISD!

Field Day

Field Day was such a great event! Although the weather didn't cooperate initially, when we finally got to hold our field days, the kids had a blast! Thanks to our coaches for putting together a great event!

Mrs. Marquart and Mr. Dissly want to send a GIANT THANK YOU to Natalie Cherry, Kate Bolfing, and all of the other parents that helped out during our field days! Y’all are amazing and so appreciated. You helped everything run so smoothly and the kids had an amazing time! Thank you so much for all of your hard work!

Volunteer GREATNESS!

We wanted to give a shout-out to our volunteers. We would be lost without this group of great people. They are always behind the scenes working in the library, planning school events, and so much more! They certainly don't get the recognition that they deserve. We are always amazed at their dedication and hard work!
