We would like to acknowledge that our school is on the traditional lands of the Dena'ina Athabascan people. It is with gratitude and respect that we recognize the past and present contributions of Alaska's first people. Chin'an (thank you)
Dear Ravenwood Families –
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family healthy and well. We miss our students! I am so proud of our teachers and staff at Ravenwood who have been working hard to build relationships, maintain instruction, and keep learning materials in your hands in distance learning. I have enjoyed jumping into class Zooms just to see the smiles and in-person learning we all miss so much!
As our district begins plans to bring our PK-6 graders back in the elementary schools, please be on the look-out for a survey from me to help us determine who is planning to return, and to gather questions you may have about what this will look like at Ravenwood. Nurse Cottle and I will be hosting a Ravenwood Zoom Meeting to share information and help answer as many of your questions, as possible.
In the meantime, please read through our September newsletter for more Covid-19 information/Q&As, and opportunities for you and your students to engage and stay connected here at Ravenwood. I hope to see many of you this Friday, as Nurse Cottle has organized our first FREE drive-thru flu shot clinic. Please read more about PTSO’s Write-a-check fundraiser and Food Drive, curbside library book news, Nurse Notes, and Battle of the Books.
As always, don’t let the separation keep you from contacting me by email, phone, or Zoom office hours with any celebrations or needs. Thank you for your continued support and grace!
Stay healthy and hopeful,
Kim Bautista
Ravenwood Drive-Thru Flu Clinic
Ravenwood Drive Thru Flu Clinic
Friday, 9/25/2020 8:30am-2:30pm
We are very excited to offer our first FREE flu vaccine drive-thru clinic at Ravenwood! Click here to view the map of the traffic flow for our Ravenwood Drive-Thru Flu Clinic.
Please stay in your car and have all occupants in the vehicle wear a face mask. If you arrive with completed flu consent forms from home for EACH person receiving a flu vaccine, follow the signs and enter directly into the parking lot. Stay to your right. A nurse will review your consent forms, hand them back to you and direct you to enter one of two lanes for vaccination administration. Hand your consent forms to one of the nurses at the vaccination station. Once everyone has been vaccinated, you may drive off and head home. Lanes will merge into one, stay to your right exiting the parking lot. Arriving with completed consent forms will get you immediately in line for vaccination and make your drive-thru experience quicker.
If you need to complete consent forms on-site, please enter the car loop (follow the signs). A staff member will provide you with consent forms (one for EACH individual getting vaccinated). Pull up and park in the loop to fill out your forms. Once completed, you may drive into the parking lot to have the consent forms reviewed and enter the vaccination station line. REMEMBER to stay in your vehicle at all times.

Library News
All students should have received their 14-digit library number and directions to place specific title holds or general book requests. Contact Mrs. Guest, guest_laura@asdk12.org or call 742-3261 and leave a message if you did not get the information. Check the https://tinyurl.com/Mrs-Guest-Info-Page for updated information and curbside pick-up dates. Times have changed to try to accommodate more families. If you do not choose a day/time they will be ready for the Thursday Classroom distribution starting at 1:30 PM.
Items checked out last year should be brought to the schools as soon as possible. There is a recycle bin just inside the main entry way under the table labeled “Library” that can be used any time the school is open. You may bring them when you come to pick up materials on Thursdays. We currently have 261 items checked out from last year. Overdue notices were in the classroom materials bag on Thursday the 17th. You can log into your student's account to see more detailed information and then search the catalog to see a picture of the cover so you know what you’re looking for!
New books arrived during Spring Break and they are ready for checkout. Be sure to look at the Ravenwood online catalog. The new books will scroll on the banner.

A message from PTSO
Hello Ravenwood Families!
PTSO has two exciting opportunities for you to support our school and community. First, we are kicking off the Write-A-Check campaign to support PTSO's ongoing budget needs such as ice rink maintenance, trail maintenance, student and teaching supplies. We are hoping to be able to host COVID-friendly events for our students and families this year. No donation is too small, and all proceeds stay with PTSO to support Ravenwood.
Our school spirit wear is on sale NOW on our website, www.ravenwoodptso.net. Order forms are also available here and on the Ravenwood website. Get your orders in by this Friday, Sept. 25th!
Check out our Facebook page at Ravenwood Elementary Group. PTSO is doing a monthly Raven Spirit Challenge. Follow our page and our updates to find out what the theme will be for each month's Spirit Challenge. At our next PTSO meeting, which is Oct 7 at 6pm via Zoom, we will be drawing three winners for Soda and S'more. We plan to have a Raven Spirit Challenge for every month along with donated prizes. This month's prizes are donated by Sarah Thomas.
Please continue to support our school fundraising efforts with Boxtops, Amazon Smile, and Fred Meyer. Every little bit helps, and those little bits all go towards our amazing school.
Keep scanning or sending in those BoxTops and dimes! Every little bit helps our school community!
Lastly, our next PTSO meeting will be October 7th (the first Wednesday of every month) at 6pm via Zoom until conditions allow in-person meetings. Anyone is welcome; however, voting is only for PTSO members. See membership info on our website.

IGNITE
The IGNITE program is an enrichment based pull-out program for 2-6 grade gifted learners who have met the eligibility criteria under ASD’s Plan of Service for gifted students. IGNITE will remain online until ASD is able to return to “low-risk” COVID status. Services to students will be both synchronous (live zooms) and asynchronous (recorded zooms and Canvas activities). IGNITE classes will be held on Wednesday to avoid conflicts with homeroom core instruction. IGNITE students can choose to join in on Zoom at the morning session at 10:00 a.m. or the afternoon session at 1:00 p.m. offered every Wednesday. IGNITE testing is currently on hold until the COVID risk level status is lowered. If you have any questions, please email Brittany Blackwell at blackwell_brittany@asdk12.org
19-20 YEARBOOKS
19-20 YEARBOOKS are available to purchase on-line in Parent Connect under 19-20 Yearbook for $15.00. Yearbooks will be sent home with Student Material Distribution on Thursdays. Contact the front office (742-3250) if you have any questions. Special thanks to Ms. van Haastert for doing an awesome job creating this school keepsake.
6TH Grade Band & Orchestra
6th Grade Band/Orchestra – ASD will be offering 6th Grade Band and Orchestra this school year! We will be delivering classes online only (with the exception of a few in-person classes when ASD returns to face-to-face instruction). We will offer at least two 30-minute Zoom lessons each week, as well as other activities for students to work on at their own pace in Canvas.
Beginning instruments this year to the following – Link to 6th Grade Instrument Demonstrations
