About Mrs. Park
About Me
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia State College. I earned my Masters degree from Appalachian State University. I also have earned licensure in teaching English as a Second Language and National Board Certification in early childhood education.
I have over twenty-two years of teaching experience. I taught in Hickory Public Schools for sixteen years in second and third grades. I was the 2006-2007 Hickory Public Schools' Teacher of the Year. I joined Lincoln County Schools in January 2015. While teaching at Pumpkin Center Intermediate School, I taught fifth grade and fourth/fifth grades as remote learning facilitator. I was honored to serve as PCIS' 2016 Teacher of the Year. I am eager to start my journey with Newton-Conover Schools!
I am married and have one son. I also have a calico cat, an anole, and a beagle.
About My Classroom
The joke with teachers and administrators who were looking for me in my physical classroom was to look on the floor! My students were often spread out around the room having discussions or working on projects. And I was popping in and out of student groups to prompt thinking and assist with projects. Or I would be leading guided reading and math groups, again, on the floor. :) Teaching in small groups and keeping the students engaged in hands on or real world activities are important in my classroom.
How that translates into a digital classroom has been a learning process and I'm still learning! From spring to fall, we worked with teachers and families to make assignments and the remote learning process easier in Google Classroom. I will be working with the fourth and fifth grade teachers at South Newton to plan academic content. I will also talk with them about the types of assignments you have been completing online and how they have been posted. Once we get in a routine together, I would like to try some different formats or activities that will help meet students' needs in small groups and hands-on/real world activities. But I will always ask for feedback from students and families on what went well and what didn't...this will allow me to tweak future learning experiences! Because the most important thing in the world is that your child learns and enjoys doing it.
