Welcome Ms. Thomas
Amanda Thomas will be the next principal to serve at Della Icenhower Intermediate School. She will be replacing Mendy Gregory, who is now the district’s Director of Social-Emotional Learning.
Thomas started her teaching career in Georgia. She moved to Texas in 2010 and began working in MISD as an eighth-grade math teacher at Linda Jobe Middle School. She later became the campus math specialist before serving as an assistant principal in a neighboring school district.
“I can’t wait to serve,” Thomas explained. “As a member of the Mansfield community and being part of the school district that my children will attend, I am deeply invested in our success. I commit to doing what is best for students and to promote a safe, positive learning culture and environment. We are in this together.”
Ms. Thomas will take over as principal in late September. We are excited to have her join our Husky Family!
Report Card Grades Posted in Skyward
- The first Grading Period ends this Friday, September 18.
- We will not print Report Cards for each grading period. Grades are always current and live in Skyward, and we will send notifications of when the Report Card Grades are final each grading period.
- Report Card Grades for the 1st grading period will be posted to Skyward on Thursday, September 24.
- Your child will record his/her report card grades at the end of each grading period in his/her planner. Parents will sign the Planner verifying they acknowledged their child's report card grades.
- At any time, you can always contact your child's teacher(s) if you have questions or concerns about your child's grades.
Masks are Required for ALL Students
Masks are non-negotiable and MUST be worn by all students!
If your child shows up without a mask, a mask will be given to them; however if this becomes a habit, student code of conduct consequences will be given and parent/guardian will be contacted to bring a mask. Bandanas and masks with valves are NOT allowed!
Students will be given mask breaks throughout the day when appropriate, and allowed to play during PE and Recess without their mask if actively moving.
There Should be NO Arrivals before 8:00 AM!
This year all car riders are to remain in their cars until we open our doors at 8:00 am. We are also asking all walkers or bike riders to not arrive on campus until 8:00 am.
There will be no supervision outside prior to 8:00 am, which means there will not be active monitoring for social distancing.
We have paw prints painted on the front walkway for students to stand on as a reminder while the doors are opening for entering the building. Should a parent need to drop off prior to 8:00 am, we have a before and after school program available. Click here for MISD Quest Information
As students enter the building, they go to the gyms or the cafeteria if they eat breakfast. The first bell rings at 8:20, for students to go to class The tarty bell rings at 8:30, and the expectation is that all students are in their seat/assigned spot and ready to learn promptly at 8:30. Students who are not in their seat/assigned spot and/or who enter the building after the tardy bell rings will be marked tardy. Students considered tardy are to check-in at the office.
No Visitors Allowed in the Building
If your child forgets his/her lunch and/or any materials needed for their learning, please follow the following procedures:
- Ring the Bell to speak to someone in the front office
- Let them know you are there to drop off your child's lunch and/or materials needed for learning
- Leave your item(s) on a table in the foyer with your child's name on it. It MUST have your child's name on it. Someone will get it off the table and deliver it to your child.
- Exit the building after that. You will not be allowed to come into the front office and/or give your child their item(s).
*This is different than having an appointment and/or being called to come pick up your child due to illness or other circumstances.
We appreciate your cooperation!

Capturing Kids' Hearts
Our focus is all about building relationships and teaching the students about our policies and procedures! Our theme this year is "You Are....Icenhower" with a focus on students feeling comfortable with who they are and how we embrace each other's differences.
Students are continuing to build their Social Contracts for each class and PE/Electives Classes...see pictures below!
