Our Giving Snowman Keeps on Giving
Thank you to all who have volunteered to help students and families in our Kulshan community. Six local families have already been helped this winter season, and two more families are still in need of a family meal. If you are interested in fulfilling one of those meals, please take a tag from the front office by the snowman. If you have already taken a tag, please make sure you return the tag and gift by January 31. Contact Shanon Fischer @ Shanon.Fischer@BellinghamSchools.org with any questions. Thank you!
What's New in P.E.?
In PE, we are in the middle of our basketball unit. We have been learning skills, rules and strategy of the game and will conclude the unit with a two-day tournament.
Here are few questions you can ask your Kulshan student about our current PE topics:
--> In basketball, what is triple threat position?
--> Name one muscle group used in the plank exercise.
After the semester break we will be talking about nutrition and playing Tchoukball - a dynamic team sport created in Switzerland.
Strengthening Family Sign Ups!
Our counselors are opening up our annual Strengthening Families registration. This program is for families who are interested in increasing family strengths, enhancing child development and engaging together as a family. The program starts up in February meets once a week. Strengthening Families works to engage families in parent resilience, social connections, adolescent development, parent support, and social/emotional growth. The program costs $35, but there are scholarships available. If you are interested, please contact either Aaron Tiger or Jen Newbauer.
WE Club Community Outreach
Our Kulshan WE Club wants your help! In an effort to be courageous, kind, and committed, WE Club will be making care packages for the Lighthouse Mission. There is a bin on the stage before school for you to drop off items such as toiletries, snacks, socks, hats and gloves. If you have questions about this WE Club project, please email Shanon Fischer, our club leader. This community project ends Friday, January 18.
Cooking with Common Threads
Our Kulshan students are enjoying our Common Threads monthly cooking lessons! We look forward to making borscht and Three Sisters stew. Cooking in the classroom runs through March 12 and we will transition back to gardening classes March 25th through the end of the school year. If you’re interested in getting involved, please contact: becky@commonthreadsfarm.org. For more information please visit www.commonthreadsfarm.org
Counseling News
Did you know our counselors are available to meet with your student about social and emotional needs? Students can stop by Student Services to complete a request form. One of the counselors will then check in with the student about their request. Here's to a happy & healthy 2019!
