Spartan Spotlight
March 2022
Greetings Spartans!
As we wrap up February and “Spring” into March we are in the middle of “Tournament Time” for all of our Winter Sports Programs. We are also gearing up to have our Spring teams start their seasons. Detailed info on start dates and contact info can be found in this newsletter. However, in addition to these athletic endeavors Fargo North also has a large variety of other activity programs with events upcoming and I wanted to make note of a few of those.
Music is set to have some Spring Concerts with Choir in the Theater on May 10th and Orchestra in the Spartandome on March 15th for a Northside concert combining Middle and High school performers.
The FNH Drama department is preparing to perform “Radium Girls” this Spring, March 10-13. More info on tickets can be found here: https://www.fargo.k12.nd.us/BoxOffice
Our Knowledge Bowl team will compete in the EDC Acalympics on March 8th.
Many members of our DECA program will head to Bismarck for the State conference and competition March 15-18.
Likewise, our JCL (Junior Classical League) will host the State conference here at Fargo North on April 30th.
FNH Forensics is starting up the Speech season and will host the North invite on March 26th, as they just finished up the Debate season. Again, these are just a small portion of the activities that are available for students. Please see the two links below that offer much more info on these and other activities.
With regards to Spring Sports, we are very excited to break ground on a new track and field complex for the 2022-23 season. Our Booster Club has been very active this year providing a variety of up grades to our weight room and 42/43 Club. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes and we appreciate all the extra time and effort our Booster Club members have done for all of our students. Finally, if any student-athletes have ambitions of competing at the college level please connect with your counselor about creating an NCAA and/or NAIA eligibility center account. This can and should be done as early as a student's sophomore year. More information can be found at these links.

Spring Play - RADIUM GIRLS
WHERE: Fargo North High School
WHEN: March 10, 11, 12 @ 7:30pm
AND March 13 @ 2:00pm
PLUG: Set in the 1920s and inspired by true events, Radium Girls centers on the forgotten moments of history that bear great significance. Radium, discovered in 1898 by Marie Curie and colleagues, is the catalyst for the play’s circumstances. The story follows Grace, who by all means is an ordinary member of the American working class. Having to leave school at fifteen to support her family, she finds substantial employment at the United States Radium Corporation’s factory. Her and her colleagues paint hundreds of watch faces a day with newly invented, mystical radium paint. The magical substance glows in the dark and many of the employees paint their face and teeth with it so they too can glow in the dark. Quite suddenly, many of the women begin to fall ill with mysterious illnesses. Grace does not escape this, and she too begins to suffer as a result of her job. She is faced with the choice of a quiet, painful death or fighting her former employer for justice and hopefully, saving the lives of future women. Radium Girls forces us to remember these women and the battles they fought for the sake of the next generation of laborers.

Selective Service Registration
All male students are required by law to register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. To register go to SSS.gov. You can preregister at 17 years and 3 months of age. Why is this so important? If you fail to register you are unable to receive federally funded college loans and grants; are unable to get into federally funded training and certification programs; are barred from all federal employment; ineligible for many state and local government jobs. Spending 45 seconds online registering at SSS.gov can save a man 45 years of headaches and heartaches.
