12-Week Students - Welcome to Class, and on to Assignment Due Date #1!
It's February, 12-Week Students! - Our First Assignment Due Date Is Thursday, 2.25.2016 before midnight!
Greetings Parents, Students, and Facilitators:
It is hard to believe we are more than halfway through February!
In this, our first Course Update, I have included resources, tips, and tricks to assist students, parents, and Facilitators in navigating this first month of your spring semester.
Additionally, I have added screenshots of our current Course Schedules (pacing guides), as well as our Course Content, which are the texts contained within our virtual textbook.
Also, take time this week to view our informational Smores on our Course Home page, which include our current Smores of study, as well as our previous ones, so that you may continue to study for our EOC in April, as well as our Final Exam in May.
It is vital to their success that students log-in daily, check for new "News Items," and study / work on our course for approximately 60-90 minutes per day. Students should also print their 12-Week Course Schedule, and have a copy next to the computer - and a 2nd copy for face-to-face schools.
Currently, we are studying:
- Module 1 - Intro to GAVS
- Module 2 - American Literary Periods, and MLA Format
- Module 3 - Contemporary (Postmodern) Prose Project
- Module 4 - Modernism
- MLA Format
- Grammar (Active v. Passive Voice; Singular v. Plural / Subject-Verb Agreement)
- Module 5 - The Great Gatsby + Essay
- Module 6 - The Research Process
- Module 10 - American Lit/Comp EOC Smore
If students follow the steps outlined in our American Lit/Comp Course Home page Bulletin Board at the top left of the page, as well as stay up-to-date with the emails and information provided in your GAVS emails, log-in to our course and study on a daily basis, and complete all assignments according to our Course Schedule Assignment Due Dates, you will be successful in this course.
Please feel free to contact me this week if you should have any additional questions regarding assignments and their due dates, and I will respond within 24 hours. I am always here to help!

12-Week Students - Assignment Due Date #1 - Grades Will Be Posted on Thursday, February 25, 2016!
Parents and Students - your first grades will been posted on this date. If you have not completed an assignment, a zero will be entered after midnight (2.26.16). Remember that we encourage parents to log in to the student portal to see the most up-to-date grades. The following video, below, will show you how to check grades:

Progress Reports Will Be Posted Tuesday, March 1 , 2016 after 10:00 p.m.
Progress Report Email Schedule:
- Assignment Due Date #1: Thursday, 2.25.16 before midnight
- Progress Report #1: Tuesday, 3.1.16 after 10:00 p.m.
This same schedule will be followed every two weeks for the remainder of this semester. Be sure to check your Course Schedule (your curriculum pacing guide chart) for the "Orange Thursdays / Assignment Due Dates."

GAVS Due Date Policy - Make Sure You Submit All Work on Time!
Late Work Policy and Assignment Due Dates:
VERY IMPORTANT! Submit all work ON TIME the Thursday your assignments are due; this way, you will be able to begin the next two weeks' work the next day, on Friday. If you put-off your work until the week it is due, you are causing yourself too much stress, and are leaving too much room for error, as well as incomplete assignments.
I want you to succeed in our class, but you must stay on track, and follow your Course Schedule, as well as log in to GAVS, on a DAILY BASIS!

Weekly Office Hours / Adobe Session Date & Times
Our Adobe Connect sessions (see class link on our Home Course Page) are Mondays at 7:00 p.m. There are times when these sessions will teach a specific lesson, and other times when they will be an opportunity for students to ask questions. Please be sure to visit the recorded help sessions under "User Links," "Synchronous Session Recordings," if you are unable to attend a session. Occasionally, in lieu of, or in addition to, an Adobe Help Session, I will post a Screencast-O-Matic News Item for additional help with a challenging concept within our current Module. If there is a holiday on our assigned Monday Adobe sessions, I will reschedule the session for the next available night that week.
