A Note from the Principal
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent when we are called to present ourselves before the altar and are asked to “turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel." Lent is a time of preparation where Catholics pray, fast, and give alms. During the season of Lent, our students will be participating in different activities that include prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. If you are looking for some Lenten activities to do at home, please click HERE for ideas your family can use to understand and embrace the season of Lent.
We continue to pray for the people of Ukraine and for those who have family members who live there. We pray for peace, and we ask God to give world leaders the wisdom to make decisions that promote life and peace.
Our Education Fair is quickly approaching, and we are excited for the return of this special community event. It will look different than in the past with activities throughout the school, but there is even more energy and enthusiasm behind it as it returns after a two-year hiatus. I want to thank our School Advisory Council and our teachers for taking the lead on this wonderful event. You don't want to miss it. See you on March 10 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and don't forget to wear your green and gold spiritwear!
Peace and blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal

Messages from Father Lane...
OTTERBEIN UNIVERSITY CONCERT CHOIR: We have been so fortunate during our church's 50th year and now again to have another music group wish to share their talents in our award-winning and acoustically amazing church. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 8, at 6:30 PM for the Otterbein University Concert Choir performance at SPB. This is an excellent opportunity to see and hear the youth sharing their gifts with us all here. THE CONCERT IS FREE! Bring your entire family to enjoy and support our students in the choir.
IGNITE YOUR FAITH PARISH MISSION WITH VINCENTIAN FATHER RONALD HOYE: It is time to make sure our annual parish mission is on your calendar and that you are recruiting others to join us for this exciting event. Fr Hoye CM will be preaching the weekend Masses March 12 & 13 and the 6:30 PM Monday - Wednesday, March 14 - 16 in the church at Saint Paschal Baylon. Want to feel closer to God? An engaging spiritual gathering that weaves story, prayer, and scripture into an enjoyable 45-minute presentation each evening. For anyone who desires a spiritual boost or spark – join us for the 3 evenings you won't forget! All are welcome (especially kids!).
From Saint Louis, MO, Fr Hoye CM is currently the director of Vincentian TeamWorks - a collaborative effort of Catholic Evangelization that includes the ministries of Catholic Home Study and Vincentian Parish Mission. He is a published author and travels throughout the country leading parish missions. Fr Hoye holds degrees in Philosophy, Theology, and Ethics.
SEE YOU SUNDAY @ CHURCH! Our lives are pretty much back to our routines. For many of us, missing one key element - worshiping together as the Body of Christ! As we heard in the scriptures in January from Saint Paul, each part of the Body of Christ is important and all are necessary. Come on home to the Table of the LORD! Worship is a team sport!
PREPARING FOR LENT: In less than a month, we begin our renewal, paschal journey through Lent, Triduum, and Easter Time. These 96 days are quite important and begin with a great Lent. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
· The church has a rubric about no flowers during Lent until the "Gloria" of the Easter Vigil. The exceptions are March 19 & March 25 for these two solemnities (Saint Joseph & Annunciation). Lent is about uncluttering our lives and focusing. We move the plants to create a stark environment around the sanctuary and an environment that helps us focus on the cross, in line with the rubric to ban flowers.
· We cover statues to not focus on the saints, but ourselves too: no ornamentation.
· Our theme song this year is "Hosea." It will be sung for us as our prayer on our YouTube channel.
· We appreciate the starkness in song by chanting the music of the Mass. There have been in past centuries rubrics about banning instrumentation as well. These are not enforced today as in previous centuries.
· Lighting is dimmed for our sanctuary and nave to help with the spirit of the liturgy too.
· We begin Mass in the solemn prayer of the "monastic" style, with a simple entrance.
o The priest will be in the presider chair 5 minutes before Mass.
o We are called to gather early to prepare to silence ourselves, listen more closely to God's Word, and be nourished by it.
o We are called to prayer by a simple ring of a bowl.
· After making the "Sign of the Cross," we sing the Penitential Act to acknowledge our need for God's mercy. No "Gloria" is sung during the Lenten season.
· Our Parish Mission will be LIVE in church and on our YouTube Channel with Vincentian priest Fr. Ron Hoye, CM, March 12 – 16.
· Join a small faith-sharing group and Live LENT! Contact Rosalie (rafl0708@yahoo.com) to sign up.
· We also have a Women's Only and Men's Only Bible Study and the Agape Bible Study groups. Contact the office for the zoom links or in-person gathering information.
· Stations of the Cross will be in the church at 7:00 PM each Friday of Lent.
· JOIN US FOR OTHER PRAYER & WORSHIP during Lent:
o WEEKDAY MASSES: 9:00 AM in church or 11:30 AM in Saint Ann Shrine
o MORNING PRAYER IN CHURCH: 8:00 AM (A 20-minute word service)
o EVENING PRAYER IN CHURCH CHAPEL: 4:45 PM (A 20-minute word service)
o ROSARY: 8:30 AM MONDAY – SATURDAY IN CHURCH (A 20-minute devotional service)
o PRAY FOR PEACE @ 2:30 PM each day with "Let There Be Peace on Earth" bells
o MAKE A VISIT: Before or after school as you drop off or pick up your student from the Day School or PSR – just 5 minutes!
o CHURCH IS OPEN – from 7 AM to 7 PM and ask me for the code to make a visit with the rest of us for the other hours of the night by receiving the code for the door by the SSS Kitchen Parking Lot and the brown hallway to enter the church this way.
· PRAYER IN THE PRESENCE OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: When driving in the area, make a visit to the chapel to spend more time in prayer, or even better, make an appointment with God by signing up for an hour of praying with the Community at Prayer ministry. If you would like to visit in the middle of the night, see me for the code to the door.
· PICK UP YOUR RICE BOWL: Let's be in solidarity with those across the globe who benefit from our prayers, fasting, and almsgiving by participating in Operation Rice Bowl. Make the bowl that we provide around the perimeter of the church and stapled to this bulletin. Read the daily items and make a recipe or two. Return your Rice Bowl on Good Friday during the Veneration of the Cross or Easter Sunday at one of the services.
· BRING BACK YOUR OLD PALMS: We will burn them for you reverently during the Easter Vigil fire. Place them in the Fickel Narthex.
· CONTRIBUTE TO OUR DIOCESE CATHOLIC CHARITIES: Support the 400,000 who come to our 60+ agencies in the 8 counties of our diocesan church.
· SUBSCRIBE TO OUR SAINT PASCHAL YOUTUBE CHANNEL: Help us reach our next plateau in the YouTube world by getting us to 1,000 subscribers by Ash Wednesday.
Thank you for taking Lent so seriously at SPB! It's a wonderful, faith-filled event for us all in the renewal of our lives. Let's continue to pray for each other.
Blessings & prayers
