Hey Jags,
This week is School Librarians' Week and it's a great time to celebrate our amazing librarian, Mrs. Boullion. She goes above and beyond to support our students and school through the library and the amazing activities and programs that she hosts. Please take a moment to send her an email or write her a quick note to let her know how much you appreciate her.

EVENTS & UPDATES
Million Mile Month
TURN IT BLUE: Autism Awareness
Show Your Support:
- Wear BLUE on April 8th--TURN IT BLUE
- Have a conversation with your child about how to show empathy and compassion towards those that are different
What Can You Do?
- Educate your children about autism and increase the awareness of this developmental disability
- Empower your children to make a positive contribution to the lives of others through kindness and tolerance
- Enable your children to make a difference, take action and become a positive role model for other children
Early Detection
- While every child develops differently, we know that early treatment improves outcomes, often dramatically.
- Visit https://nationalautismassociation.org/resources/signs-of-autism/ for more information on early detection
Hope For Three is a local 501c3 nonprofit and autism advocacy group providing resources and support to families living with an autism spectrum disorder. The organization also generates awareness through outreach, education, and events. Please visit their website for more resources, https://www.hopeforthree.org/resources/.
Ramadan
We want you to know that the Jag Staff is ready and happy to provide support for students that are participating in Ramadan. Our partnership with our school community is important. We thank our families for their communication with the campus regarding special occasions and observances that may impact the instructional day, so that we can continue to our all students.
We have space available in the library during lunches for fasting students who do not wish to be in the cafeteria. Fasting students who want to sit in the cafeteria are welcome to do so and will not be required to eat or drink. We also recognize that some students may wish to request to be excused from PE while fasting. To be excused from PE, a note is required from the parent, or the religious organization, with the start and end date. We are aware that many students pick and choose days to fast but this can be difficult to monitor, therefore, if a note is brought in the student will be excused from all physical activity for the entire month and will be provided with alternate assignments.
Should students start to feel unwell or need any support, the campus will be ready to respond to their needs. Please reach out to your child's grade-level assistant principal or counselor and encourage your children to communicate with their teachers about any needs that may occur during Ramadan.
Spring Dance
We can't wait for the Spring Dance this Friday, April 8th! The dance will be held in the SMS Gyms from 6:30-8:30pm. We are committed to making it a fun, safe, and memorable experience for all. We have over 30 parent and teacher chaperones as well as all of our administrators and counselors that will be in attendance. The dance is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and the last opportunity to buy a ticket will be at lunch on Friday. Tickets are $5 and students may only purchase one ticket.
Tickets
- Tickets are being issued as wristbands with a unique number on them and students are expected to have their wristband to enter the dance.
- Students with a wristband should be dropped off in the circle drive near the gym and will enter the dance from the exterior doors near the track/football field.
- If students have been unable to keep their wristband on, they will need to bring it with them to the dance and will be directed to a different entrance upon arrival to verify their ticket.
- No tickets will be sold at the entrance to the dance on Friday.
- Students will not be admitted to the dance after 7:00pm.
Dance Info
- We will have a DJ, dancing, and photobooth set up in the Big Gym. The bleachers will be open for students that wish to hangout with friends and/or eat snacks.
- Concessions (water, soda, candy, chips and pizza) will be sold outside the gym for $1-$2 (cash only)
- The small gym will be open for basketball and other games.
- Dress Code—all students must follow our school dress code
Dismissal
- We anticipate a large number of students will attend the dance and we ask for your patience as we dismiss from the dance to ensure that all students are safe near traffic.
- Once a student leaves the dance, they will not be allowed to return. If you arrive early, please text your child and have them meet you at the designated location.
- The dance will end at 8:30pm and students should be picked up no later than 8:45pm
- Pick Up Locations
- 6th Grade--front circle drive
- 7th & 8th Grade—bus ramp/circle drive near the gym
- If you have students in multiple grade-levels, please plan to pick up your children at the location for the highest grade-level
- If you arrive early, but would like to wait, we ask that you park in the staff parking lot and then enter the pick up line once we have dismissed all students.
