Scholastic Book Fair: Teacher Preview Event
Family ELA Night (Literacy Event)
The Family ELA Night event was held on Thursday, March 10, 2016. With over 75 people in attendance, we had a successful reading celebration. A representative from the Main Branch of the Richland County Public Library did an awesome job of presenting events from the library. Parents enjoyed sessions related to SC Ready, South Carolina's statewide assessment for English and Math; Edmodo and Quizizz, online games/assessments; Accelerated Reader, online comprehension assessment for books; and Scholastic Book Fair, to purchase books, games, and crafts. Parents who attended this event had an opportunity to qualify for one of several $5.00 book fair gift certificates that were given out. Students who attended this event with a parent or guardian received 100 points in their ELA class.

A Celebration of "NEA's Read Across America" (Sponsored by Polycom and TWICE)
Dates: February 22 - March 4
This project consisted of classrooms connecting over videoconference to celebrate reading. Each class created their own reading activity, then connected with their partner class to present their reading themed activities to each other. Students also shared information about their school and community. At St. Andrews, five ELA classes had an opportunity to communicate with students in various parts of the country, including Virginia, Texas, Canada, and Pennsylvania. The students were enthusiastic and well-behaved as they shared information about text they were reading, as well as South Carolina facts.
