MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS

219th ISSUE: February 11, 2022

From the Desk of Mr. Curtis Price

Marian Central is proud to offer a variety of extracurriculars that help foster student involvement. I am honored to have this opportunity to introduce our Fine Arts Department to highlight their productions over the year and preview upcoming performances! Good afternoon and welcome to the Friday Focus for February 11, 2022.

We appreciate being able to focus on Marian Theater! Mrs. Christine Connell and Mr. Andrew Ossler led a fabulous fall production of All Together Now! - a celebration of schools welcoming live theater back to schools across the country.

Our theater and music students are keeping quite busy! Mr. Ossler, Srta. Christi DeWispelaere, and Mr. Austin Book (our student teacher) are excited to be practicing for our spring musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Performances will be March 18- 20, 2022, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. We feel the enthusiasm of the students every day as we prepare our production of an average day in the life of the loveable Charlie Brown and his Peanuts friends. The musical is based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles Schulz and the book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner. We are so proud of everyone involved in the show!

Not only are the students working on the musical, but a handful of them have also started planning for the annual variety show, which is currently scheduled for late April. The emcees for the show are already planning their skits and will be announcing auditions for the various acts soon. We anticipate that auditions will take place at the end of February or the beginning of March, so if you have a talent to share, start practicing now!

The Fine Arts Boosters support our Art, Music, and Theater departments. The arts allow our students to develop and share their creative talents with each other as well as the school and the surrounding community. You can witness these talents at sporting events where the pep band livens up the crowd and choir students sing the national anthem. The plays and musicals foster new friendships between actors, crew, and set designers while bringing enjoyment to the whole community. We hope you’ll come support the Fine Arts Boosters and the students!

Junior Students and Parents – ACT Test Prep

Every year, Marian Central Catholic High School serves as a test center for the ACT in April. This year, the test date will be Saturday, April 2nd, 2022. Please note that this date does fall during our spring break. Also know that while we serve as a test center, we are not able to reserve seats for our Marian Central students. If you are interested in signing up for the April 2nd ACT (or the February 12th, June 11th or July 16th at other locations), please register on the ACT Registration website. For the April 2nd test here, be sure to use our test center code: 174990. And our school code is: 144475.

As our junior class prepares to take the ACT this spring, I wanted to share two opportunities with you that are free and could provide some additional assistance in preparing for the exam.

  • We will be providing a free practice ACT here at Marian Central Catholic on Friday, March 11th. This is a half day for students, so the practice exam will be from 12:30pm – 4:00pm in the library. Space is limited to the first 30 students who sign up.

  • Revolution Prep, a test prep and academic success company, will be offering a free two-hour virtual presentation exclusively for our students called ACT 101 Strategy Session. This will be held on Sunday, March 6th from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

Students can sign up for one or both opportunities through the Revolution Prep website. The Revolution Prep website will have links to additional free practice tests as well as some group test prep sessions, which come with a fee.
