Discounts are calculated by finding a percent of a number,and then subtracting it from the original amount the discount is the amount that's saved on a purchase

Commission is the amount of money someone makes off a sale.It is a certain percent of a number that is not an addition or a reduction
Examples of commission
Tom earns a 5% commission for each cellular phone he sells. on Tuesday, he sells a cellular phone for $140. To find the commission I had to multiply .05 x 140 to find he got a $7.00 commission
Examples of discounts
Jim buys a DVD for 10% off at the video store. The original price was $15. To find the discount price you have to multiply .10 x 15= $1.50 then you have to subtract that from 15 which equals to $13.50
Examples of mark ups
Sam is selling a college textbook.She bought the textbook for $15 and is marking it up by 75%. To find how much it would cost after she marked it up you'd have to multiply 15 x .45 = $11.25 then I add that to 15 which equals to $26.25
Examples of taxes
Katherine bought groceries at the store and her total amount was $105. But when she got to the register she ended up paying 6% more than the original amount. To find how much she paid, you have to multiply 105 x 6% which equals to $6.30 then you have to add that to $105 which equals to $111.30
Examples of tips
Martha went to Bob Evans for her birthday. Her total cost on her bill was $25. She decided to tip her waiter by 15% because of the great service. To find her tip you have to multiply 25 x .15 =$3.75 now to find the overall cost you have to add that to $25 which equals to $28.75
