And...We FINALLY had some snow! Our students were able to use the sleds at recess.
Early Childhood Night
Early Childhood Night at both Baker and Dorr will be held virtual this year; Wednesday, February 17, at 6:00PM, via zoom. https://waylandunion.zoom.us/j/87585386602 This will be a live zoom. Parents will be able to ask questions to both Dorr and Baker principals, as well as, any current Y5's, Kindergarten and Preschool teachers from either school who attend the zoom.
It's Time To Enroll For Kindergarten & Young 5's
AGE REQUIREMENT FOR KINDERGARTEN & YOUNG 5’s - Regardless of which program you sign your child up for, all students entering Y5's or Kindergarten for the 21/22 school year MUST turn 5 by December 1st, 2021.
Wayland Union Schools now has a district registrar who will enroll all students, Y5's through 12th grade, entering WUS for the first time. Please follow all steps below to ensure that your child is fully registered and enrolled for the 2021/2022 school year.
· STEP #1 - Enrollment begins at the building level: Families will need to stop at either the Baker or Dorr Elementary office to pick up their 21/22 enrollment packet. At that time, families will sign up for a mandatory screening that will take place later in the spring.
· STEP #2 – Complete Online Enrollment. This is done through the waylandunion.org website. See the back side of this sheet for specifics for both New Families and Returning Families.
https://waylandunion.org/parentsstudents/enrollment/
*IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT ENTER AN EXISTING STUDENT AS A NEW STUDENT TO THE DISTRICT. This will create two households in the database and will not link your incoming student’s record to the current household. Call the helpdesk for assistance if you cannot add your incoming student to an existing household or parent portal.
· STEP #3 – Once your application has been received by the district registrar, you will receive an email letting you know your application has been processed and you can then call to make an appointment to drop off paperwork. Dawn Stein @ 269-792-2181.
*This appointment is mandatory – enrollment will not be completed until this step is done.
Preschool Enrollment
Morning Drop Off Reminders
1. Students should be on the passenger side of the vehicle.
2. Masks, coats, boots, etc - should be on the child and the child should be ready to get out when an adult approaches the vehicle.
3. Backpacks should be on the seat next to the student so they can easily grab the backpack when exiting the car.
4. All loose items in the car should be moved away from the door the child is exiting from. Items falling out of the vehicle have become a huge safety concern; trash, extra shoes, ice scrapers, gloves, etc. Students are wanting to bend down into the drop off lane near the vehicles wheels, to retrieve items that have fallen out of the vehicle.

The Whole Brain Child is a great read to help parents, caregivers, and anyone who plays a role in helping children develop and overcome the challenges life throws their way. This book presents the science behind your child's brain development to promote understanding about what is happening when a child “flips their lid” or loses control of their emotions. Along with giving an easy to understand explanation of the chemistry of your child’s brian, this book also provides guidelines, tips, and steps to help manage your child’s big emotional reactions. The goal of this book is to help parents and caregivers educate their children to better cope with crisis, emotions, and stress in the future. During this presentation I hope to provide a more detailed summary of this book as well as connecting my understanding of mental health to the parenting strategies provided in this reading.
