What does it mean?
4 components...
1) understanding of educational policy at the local, state, and national level2) understanding of the roles of school leaders, boards of education, legislators, other stakeholders in making these policies
3) using the knowledge for advocating (student needs, effective teaching practices, student learning)
4) have influence and respect within the school, community and profession
Functions of the teacher leader:
Sharing
Sharing information (colleagues, district level and beyond) about classroom impact of policies and expectations for student learning
Working
Working with colleagues to identify and use research to advocate
Collaborating
Collaborating with colleagues (selecting opportunities, securing resources, communicate with targeted audiences)
Advocating
Advocating for resources, financial support, time (focus on learning effective practices and developing a PLC focused on improvement)
Representing
Representing and advocating for the profession outside the classroom
