TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been another busy week here at our kura with lots of learning, building, sport, dancing, hard mahi and topped off today with thunder and lightning!
Yesterday our 'Curriculum lead teachers' met with Mel Hagan from the Ministry of Education to discuss the continued positive direction of our schools future focused curriculum. We have some very exciting plans for each 'theme' and this will help us to plan amazing integrated units of inquiry that will link to our school values, our local curriculum/area, each theme and the NZ curriculum. We have 6 themes that will take our topics at school on amazing inquiries with our learners:
Theme 1 - VS CREATIVITY, INNOVATION AND ENTERPRISE
Theme 2 - VS CITIZENSHIP, PARTICIPATION AND GLOBALISATION
Theme 3 - VS HEALTHINESS - HEALTHY ME, HEALTHY YOU, HEALTHY VS
Theme 4 - VS PATTERNS, PROCESSES AND PHENOMENA
Theme 5 - VS SUSTAINABILITY, ENVIRONMENT AND PLACES
Theme 6 - VS HISTORY, NZ HISTORY, FUTURE AND CULTURES
A big thanks to all our learners who came dressed up in pink today for 'NZ Pink Shirt day', it was great to see so much support for this event. Each class had a discussion around what is bullying and what we do if we feel we are being bullied.
It was great to hold our second whole school assembly of the year today - it is so good to have the whole Vogeltown family together for these occasions! A big thanks to Rm 12 and Rm 3 for hosting - you guys were amazing!
Next week we look forward to our Whanau Gumboot throw prelims and finals day - a big thanks to Miss Fleming for organising this event.
We also have our 16 Class reps head off to Palmerston North at 5.30am on Wednesday to be part of the National Young Leaders Conference.
Have a great weekend whanau. I hope you can all dodge the rain, wrap up warm and enjoy some whanau time!
Aroha nui, Mr O

CARRINGTON SHIELD 2022
What an awesome day we had for the annual Carrington Shield with Central School! It was a beautiful day for a walk and for sport.
Unfortunately, the games did not go our way and we lost the shield - we will get it back in 2023!
The results were:
Rugby 9 - 5 to Central
Football 16 - 1 to Central
Netball A 6 - 2 to Vogeltown
Netball B 4 - 2 to Vogeltown
Chess 36 - 28 to Central
A massive thanks to our Central School 'city cousins' for their hospitality and manaakitanga! The sportsmanship and kinship was outstanding!
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 3, TERM 2
We are slowly getting our attendance back up to our 'pre-covid' rate. Last term our average attendance was 86% of our school population at school.
This week we are sitting at an average of 91% which is great. We are beginning to see some more cases crop up and school and we have heard that other schools are noticing an increase in cases - it is just a reminder that we are still in a pandemic and we must continue to keep being vigilant with hand washing and keeping safe.
