Magellan attempts to find a shorter route to Asia
Magellan's first voyage
Ferdinand Magellan was born in the spring time of 1480, in Northern Portugal.Ferdinand Magellan started his voyage three years ago 1519. He set sail with five ships and more than 260 men. Magellan wanted be a famous explorer more than anything. he had heard about the recent famous explorer Christopher Columbus who had found a shorter route to Asia. King Charles V king of Spain supported magellan and gave him the tools he needed for his voyage.
The straight of Magellan
on December 15, 1519 Magellan's ships landed on the coast of present day Brazil. They met kind Native Americans who traded with them. They traded fruit and fresh meat. They continued their journey to Asia. They found a lot of bays and rivers, but no straights.
Facts of magellan
On November 28, 1520, Magellan's ships went through the strait of Magellan. Magellan had seen a body of water he had seen before. Magellan did not know that this was the South sea discovered by the very famous Vasco Nunez de Balboa.
Magellan's death
On April, 17, 1521 Magellan sailed to an island with only 60 of his men unfortunately they were attacked by a tribe of 1,500 Native Americas. Magellan was stabbed multiple times and died in battle. Only one of Magellan's ships made it back to Spain safely. Magellan's voyage was the first one to sail around the world.
