What do they do? Anesthesiologists put patients in hospitals and other places to sleep or simply numb someone to prepare for surgery. This can take place before or after surgery.
Responsibility and Salary
Some responsibilities for this job include ;
- Provide continual medical assessment of the patient
- Monitor and control the patient’s vital life functions, including heart rate and rhythm, breathing, blood pressure, body temperature and body fluid balance
- Control the patient’s pain and level of consciousness to make conditions ideal for a safe and successful surgery
Salary in Illinois is $369,546 Per year
Education
After completing a four year bachelor's degree, students then take four years of graduate education leading to a degree in medicine (M.D.) or osteopathy (D.O.). After receiving a medical degree, students must complete four more years in an anesthesiology residency. Some residents take one more year of study or fellowship, in a specific area of anesthesiology such as critical care medicine, pain medicine, research or education.
