Moving Forward!

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of October and quickly moving towards winter break. Progress reports were mailed home this week, and final grades and report cards will be assessed on November 19. We encourage you to talk with your student about their progress grades and make any necessary plans to resubmit work, retake assessments, or turn in missing assignments. These plans, and your consistent monitoring of their grades using PowerSchool, will help assure they have a successful school year. If you have any questions or concerns about your student's grades or work, feel free to reach out to your student's teachers for more information!

Every Day Counts!

Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) has required us to rethink how we interact with students and how we track those interactions, student engagement and attendance. We’d like to thank parents and family members for supporting student attendance and engagement. We know CDL is difficult to manage but by working together we can ensure students get the best educational outcome possible. Students are expected to be present for all of their scheduled classes for the duration stated by the teacher. We have a four period schedule each day except Wednesday when the only class is from 10:00-11:00.

As participation is very important for your students’ learning, we appreciate your support in encouraging your students to have their camera on during the Zoom portion of class. We understand that not all students are comfortable with that. If this is the case, please support us in making sure they are participating during those sessions with the chat feature and other methods teachers are providing.

CDL Continues through January

The district announced on October 21 that we will continue with our CLD model through at least the end of this term - January 28, 2021. In a news release posted on the district website, Superintendent Gilson stated

"Due to the continued high number of cases in our county, we will not be returning to the in-person or hybrid instructional model until the criteria that the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) have established in their matrix that lets us know when it is safe to do so. Our current Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) model will continue to be used through the end of the second quarter, January 28th, 2021. We will continue to monitor ODE criteria for future decisions and update students and families."

Due to this announcement, we encourage families to continue to work with their students on ways to make CDL a productive and beneficial approach to learning. If you would like recommendations on how to make online learning as effective as possible, check our the WHS Campus CLD Hub for resources and recommendations.
