North Central High School Boys’ Basketball Team State Semi-Final Round Playoff Game
Congratulations to the North Central High School Boys’ Basketball Team and Coach, Apphia Jordan, for advancing to the state semi-final round by beating Haynesville in the LHSAA Playoffs.
The semi final game will be played in Lake Charles, Louisiana at Burton Coliseum on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 1:15 PM.

Mrs. Byrom’s first-grade class celebrated Read Across America Week by inviting various guest readers to share their favorite Dr. Seuss books. Two of the classroom visitors were Mr. Limoges, principal, who read Green Eggs and Ham and Mr. Whaley, assistant principal, who read One Fish, Two Fish. Red Fish, Blue Fish.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday Celebration at Highland
ULL Students came to Ms. Perkins’ Kindergarten class to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday (Read Across America).
They read Dr. Seuss books and also did fun activities for each book.
Ms. Perkins' Kindergarten Class at Highland has been learning about President’s Day in Social Studies. So, to mark the occasion, they made a George Washington craft!

Congratulations to Taylor Robinson who placed 4th in Speech Division II at Jr. Beta State Competition that was held on 2/21 – 2/23.

Tuskegee Airman Charles Chenier was the guest of honor at MACA’s black history program, held on February 1. He is the last surviving Tuskegee Airman veteran in the state of Louisiana. Our students and faculty were honored to hear his story.

Opelousas High School students win at the Louisiana State Social Studies Fair. After qualifying in several vigorous rounds of competition at the school level, parish level and regional level, Olivia Adams and Abigail LaHaye won Second Place in Political Science for their project “Dreamers for DACA”; and in Sociology-Ahraf Swati and Taylor Guillory placed First for “Salem Witch Hunts in Modern Society.” Congratulations to these talented students!
Opelousas High School students Olivia Adams, Aaron Jackson, and Ahraf Swati have joined a select group of student-athletes as members of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Girls and Boys (respectively) All-Academic 4.00 Scholar Teams. Olivia, Aaron, and Ahraf have earned this place by maintaining a 4.0 or higher with participating in a rigorous soccer program. As recipients of the 2017-2018 Academic Composite Soccer Teams, the students were honored during the halftime of the State Championship Soccer Game at the ULL Ragin’ Cajun Soccer Field in Lafayette, Louisiana on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.

Port Barre Elementary held Math and Science Night on Feb. 27, 2018. Parents and students engaged in content aligned math and science skills that required critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication to solve a series of challenging puzzles in order to crack the code to “Breakout”. Upon cracking the code and unlocking the box, each student received a set of math flash cards.
PORT BARRE HIGH SCHOOL
Congratulations to the 7 students who participated in the Regional Science Fair this past Saturday, February 23rd. Jackie Lahman placed second in the Physics and Astronomy Category and Taylor Bourgeois placed first in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Category. Taylor also placed second OVERALL in the Junior Division of the Regional Science Fair. Thank you all, for representing our school this weekend!!
