Welcome to Seminar 5!
Preparing to prepare
Greetings! I continue to be impressed with your hard work and thoughtful conversations, particularly as you focus on the process of learning how to learn mathematics and asking the questions necessary for success.
Thanks for making the discussions meaningful and interesting for everyone and for bringing new ideas to share. Thank you also for asking more questions: this will certainly help you in our course and the courses to follow
Your work on the material is going strong and your good habits will serve you well this seminar as you not only learn the material but also begin to prepare for the final exam. I look forward to your success and remain here to help you achieve your goals.
*** Do keep in mind next week is the final exam so now is the time to review the material, ask questions about what my be confusing, and start getting ready to take the assessment.***
Quiz 4
- Start early. Begin reviewing for the quiz starting on Friday. Take time to practice skills from each section. Use this time to also prepare for the final exam. Take another look at skills from earlier seminars--are there any questions you still have?
- Practice regularly. Studying for a quiz doesn't happen the day before a quiz, it should happen every day as you review old skills and connect them to the new ones you're learning. Spend 20-30 minutes (or more) reviewing prior skills each day. As you practice for your quiz, also keep your eye on preparing for the exam. You can use your time now to help you on the quiz as well as help you next seminar.
- Understand the steps. As you work through a problem, ensure you know HOW and WHY you're taking each step. If you aren't sure, consider reviewing in your book, using the MML tools, or posting your question to the class.
- Take your time. Don't feel rushed. Sometimes it takes longer to develop skills as you overcome possible pitfalls of time or anxiety.
- Ask questions. I am here to help and your classmates may have great ideas to share. Asking questions is the best way to get them answered.

Save For Later
Just remember: once you see a problem, you MUST answer it. However, once it's answered, you can shut down the quiz, take a break, and return when you are ready.
Any questions? Please ask them :-)
