Habit 4: Think Win Win
Reminder From School Nurse
Just a reminder, in keeping with our County approved reopening guidelines any student called in with an illness related absence or sent home with any one or more of the symptoms listed below must be cleared by a district nurse to return to in person instruction. As detailed below, per county guidelines students must shift to remote learning for a period of 10 days or must be cleared by a medical provider to return sooner. This may or may not involve a Covid test and is a decision made by your medical provider. While in some instances this may seem extreme, we are working hard to keep our students and staff safe in the school setting. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your ongoing support in this matter,
Laura Curran BSN, RN, PHN
Credentialed School Nurse
Cell: (925) 250-0779
Illness Protocol
Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) recommends that students who appear to have a COVID-19 or influenza-like illness at arrival, or become ill during the day, be promptly separated from other students and staff and sent home. Symptoms include but are not limited to:
Temperature 100.0 or above or chills
Congestion or runny nose
Shortness of breath
Sore throat or cough
Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea
Body aches/Fatigue
New loss of taste or smell
Students exhibiting any symptom, not previously documented by a healthcare provider, should be isolated until they can be transported home or to a healthcare facility, as soon as practicable. Contact information for parents should be updated regularly so that parents can pick up their ill child in a timely manner should the child present to the office with any symptoms.
Return to School after Exclusion for Symptoms
Students with symptoms may not return for in-person instruction until they have met CDPH criteria to discontinue home isolation for those with symptoms.
If your our student has been identified with symptom(s) that could be associated with COVID-19 infection based on criteria from Alameda County Public Health, the following are requirements for your student to return to campus.
If (1) the student’s COVID-19 test is positive, OR (2) the student is NOT tested and has NO medical evaluation, the student may return after:
At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, AND
There have been at least 24 hours with no fever, without the aid of taking medicines to lower the fever such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin), AND
Other symptoms, such as cough or shortness of breath, are improving.
A note from a doctor or clinic is not needed
If at student is NOT tested but has a medical evaluation, they may return before 10 days have passed if:
Symptoms have resolved, AND
A medical provider (doctor, nurse practitioner or certified physician assistant) provides a letter indicating that (1) an alternative diagnosis has been made and (2) the student’s symptoms are NOT due to COVID-19.
If the student’s COVID-19 test is negative, and the parents want the student to return to the program before the 10 days of isolation have passed, the student may return if:
The student is feeling better (all symptoms improving), AND
There have been at least 24 hours with no fever, without the aid of taking medicines to lower the fever such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin), AND
The student consults a medical provider (doctor, nurse practitioner or certified physician assistant) to determine the significance of their symptoms. The medical provider will need to provide a letter indicating that (1) the student’s symptoms are NOT due to COVID-19, AND (2) the COVID-19 test was negative, BUT
If it is not possible for the parent to consult a medical provider, they must obtain a COVID-19 negative test result indicating that a molecular test or PCR was performed.

Read-a-Thon April 12-25
For our Read-a-Thon this year, we're using an awesome web based fundraising system that makes it much easier for you to request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online. It's fun and easy! What counts as reading for the Read-a-Thon? All reading outside of the in-person or virtual classroom! Daily homework reading, newspapers, magazines, or cereal box reading; reading done for a report or project; Reading to a parent or reading with a parent, sibling, or friend. Our Labradors are already reading so it's easy, fun, and let's help to challenge our Labradors to earn a gold medal and raise some money for Lawrence!
The Read-a-Thon is 4/12/21-4/25/21, so please register now to help our school raise funds to support staff grants, teacher appreciation, and school activities:
• Go to http://pledgestar.com/lawrence
• Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event”
• Enter your name and email address, then click “Submit”
• Follow the instructions on-screen to register students
When you finish, the system emails pledge requests to your family and friends, which allows them to make secure credit card donations online. You get notified each time a pledge is made and you can track your pledge progress online.
Please call 1-888-598-7510 if you need assistance.
