Did You Know....???

Each week I am going to try to put something fun or interesting about our school, our staff, or our students in this Did You Know....???? section.

Mrs. Foehr (Miss Tomsho) who teaches first grade was a student at Slackwood and actually attended first grade in the same classroom she teaches in.

Wednesday, October 7 Was National Walk/Bike to School Day

On Wednesday, Mrs. Weister met with a group of our walkers and some bus riders and they left the firehouse and walked to school in observance of National Walk/Bike to School Day. Students who participated received wristbands and posters. See pictures below.

Miss Cook's Class Completes the Cardboard Challenge

For the past few weeks the students in Miss Cook's class have been working on special projects which they shared with their families on Friday. Miss Cook introduced the students to this wonderful, creative and innovative project through the video for Caine's Arcade. Student's teamed up and created their own arcade games using cardboard, tape, glue, markers, scissors and any other recyclable object. On Friday, the students shared their projects with classes, administrators, teachers and their families. See some of the amazing pictures below.

Lost and Found

The school keeps a lost and found across from the library on the hooks. With the changing weather, students often wear light coats and jackets to school. By afternoon, the temperature has risen and they discard their coats. If they leave them outside or in the all purpose room and they are not labeled, they get put in the lost and found. My best advice is to write your child's name in all of the labels of the clothes. Otherwise, it could end up in the lost and found like these items below.

Each year, we take unclaimed clothes and donate them or use them. The Lost and Found is emptied twice a year so if you are looking for something, come check it out.

Questions to ask your child when they come home from school

When you ask your child,"How was your day?", do they give an answer like, "Fine." Here is a great article for parents to help you ask different questions that may spark conversations.
