Gator Library
What You Need To Know
My Philosophy
I believe all libraries should be the hub of every school. The Garner Library is a place where all students are always welcome and will feel welcomed when they are here. The library is a place that can be noisy and busy and full of life throughout the day. I believe loud libraries are the best libraries.
I also believe in a student's right to read and choose what they read. The Garner library collection will be curated to meets the needs and wants of both teachers and students and requests are always welcome.
How Can I Help You?
I am here to support you in lots of ways! Below you find a link to a Google Sheet where you can start to fill in any major research projects, science units or other planned projects that I could help support you on. This could range from the basics of pulling or requesting resources you may need, introducing students to a new tech tool, online resources, etc. all the way to us working together in some way to best meet your needs for whatever it is that you are doing. Like I said, I'm here for YOU!
Library Collaboration Sheet
Please take some time to add to this sheet! I would love to know when you are doing any major research projects or anything else you think we could work together on.
Checkout
Number of Books
These may change, if I change them they will only go UP!
- 3rd - 6th = 5 (for now)
- 1st-2nd = 3 (for now)
- Kindergarten = 1 (this will definitely go up later in the year)
Please communicate with me your checkout preferences for your class. If you want them to have at least one "just right" book for example or they need a specific type of book for a project, it is helpful for me to know!
Checkout Expectations
- Shelf Marker
- Find Awesome Books
- Checkout with Mrs. Phillips
- Find a spot ANYWHERE in the Library to read!
Furniture
The furniture is for all students to use while in the library here are my basic expectations.
Blue Rises
- Four per blue RISE, 2 up top, 2 on the bottom
- Enter and Exit from the front ONLY
Blue Ottomans
- These may me moved throughout the library. The expectation is that they move them to where they want to read and stay there.
Green Ottomans
- Can move around within the open middle area in front of the checkout desk
- The bench, bean bags, wobble stools, carpet are also fair game!
All furniture is returned to its Home Base before leaving!
Open Door Policy
I have an Open Door Policy for the Library. Students are welcome to come at ANY TIME (that you allow) to get new books when they need them! They may come when I have class as long as Mrs. Phillips is present in the library. If I am teaching the expectation is that they come in quietly and if they don't see Mrs. Phillips they should come back later. (We talked about this during library orientation!)
