PTA is also in need of bags of candy to pass out at the Trunk-or-Treat event that evening. If you would like to send in a bag of candy for this, please label it "Fall Carnival" and send it to your child's teacher or leave it in the front office.
If you would like to volunteer your time at the carnival, PTA is in great need of volunteers for different booths and activities. Events like this are only made possible through parent volunteers, so join the fun & click the link below to sign up up:

This Week's Letters & Sight wORDS
Letters & Sounds: B & P
Sight Words: am, up, pink
WHAT WE'RE LEARNING THIS WEEK
Reading- Students will continue to talk about finding sight words in their reading, using beginning sounds of words to help decode words, and re-trying and not giving up when they get stuck on words .
Word Work- We will be focusing on letter sounds and working closely with more of our sight words.
Writing- We will be learning how to use our classroom resources to help us write, like the word wall and writing rubrics. We will also celebrate all that we have learned in writing so far!
Math- We will be talking about numbers that are "just before" and "just after" each other, as well as talking about spatial language and our left & right.
Science- We will be learning about frog life cycles and the difference in characteristics between frogs and toads and learning to care for our new class pets! (Fire belly toads)
Social Studies-We will be talking about community helpers.
How to help at home
This Month: Book Character Pumpkins (Due on or before October 28th)
Click the link for examples and details: (Please no carved pumpkins)http://www.ourwhimsicaldays.com/home/amazing-book-character-pumpkin-decorating-ideas
Nightly:
-Work on our Letters & sight words of the week! Students should know how to read, write, and spell these. This includes proper handwriting.
-Read with your child at least 20 minutes a night (Look in their blue Rock Star folder for different strategies to help with this) Log their time read on their Million Word Challenge reading log!
Have your child point to each word as they read
- Have your child find their sight words in their books.
- Have your child match the sounds they're saying to the beginning letters of words in their books.
- Have your student do a "picture walk" through new books before they read.
-Practice talking about positions of numbers (3 is "just before" 4, or 7 is "just after" 6)
-Practice knowing left from right (do the Hokey Pokey!)
