This Week: Being Present and Giving Others My Attention

This element of the Other People Matter Mindset means that when I’m with other people, I’m present and give them my full attention. A deliberate focus on being present is so important today due to the increasing number of distractions vying for our time and attention. Phone calls, text messages, emails, social media notifications all have the formidable capacity to pull us away from the present moment and what’s most important – our relationships with other people.

Big picture

Books and Beyond

Cheers all around for the Kindergarten and 1st grade students working hard reading for the Books and Beyond program. Thanks to the parents for encouraging your children to read and submit their sheets!

Here are a couple highlights of the program that is set to wrap up this month:

  • PUMP IT UP- the last two weeks of April (April 15-30) we are encouraging each class to submit a minimum of 10 sheets. Special class treats will be given out to celebrate the conclusion of the program!

  • Sheets will only be accepted through April 30, 2019.

  • Recognition Ceremony- Please put May 15th on your calendar- the Kindergarten ceremony will be at 930 and 1st grade ceremony will begin at 1005 where we will celebrate the work your child has done this year.

  • Rewards for individual recognition in May:

1-9 sheets read and submitted: certificate of completion

10-19 sheets read and submitted: ribbon

20-29 sheets read and submitted: bronze medal

30-39 sheets read and submitted: silver medal

40+ sheets read and submitted: gold medal

ATTENTION BIKE RIDERS!!

Thanks to our hardworking PTA for installing a new bike rack on the West side of our school near the playground! Biking to school helps create healthy habits that will last a lifetime. It also helps with congestion on streets around the school and in carpool, saves money, and promotes a clean environment. With warmer weather finally arriving, let's get outside and get moving!

Volunteer Spotlight

PARENTS WE NEED YOUR HELP!

With just two months left in the school year, the PTA is hard at work planning for next year! Each week, in our "Volunteer Spotlight" we are featuring a volunteer position that is open for the coming school year. To date, we have not had anyone volunteer for the positions that we have featured. So far, these positions are:

  • Corporate Sponsorship Chairperson
  • Buildings and Ground Coordinator
  • Panda Pulse Editor

If you would like more information about these positions and the time commitment involved, please email Amy Toland at tolandfam@gmail.com. By filling these positions prior to the end of the school year, current volunteers are able to help transition the role to the hands of new volunteers.

This week’s feature is the Yearbook Editor. Penny Road students and staff love getting the Yearbook at the end of the year. The Yearbook Editor works with Strawbridge, our school picture company. Utilizing their software, a yearbook is generated using students’ school pictures, as well as, grade level candids that people contribute throughout the year. We hope someone will let their creative juices flow and take on this project so our school’s tradition may continue!
