Alcatraz
On March 8th, San Antonio staff and students traveled to visit Alcatraz and learn more about the prison’s history. According to Mr. Smith, he had a great time and thought the weather was nice as well.
Alumni Profiles
Students often return to visit and tell us how they are doing. This new feature will highlight these students, their accomplishments and their advice to current students
Dustin Arango graduated in 2017. He is currently taking an English class at Santa Rosa Junior College and working with his uncle. He says that the college class requires a lot of reading. His advice to current students is, “Do your work and be nice to the teachers.”
Kelly Carmona graduated in 2017. She is currently working at the Three Twins factory making ice cream. She has plans to register for barber school. Her advice to current students is “Do not waste your time here, I regret wasting time at San Antonio.”
Alvaro Garza graduated from San Antonio in 2015. He has been in the Marines for over a year as a machine gunner stationed in 29 Palms. He says that he has learned discipline from the service and explains that he had to be patient while attempting to join the Marines because of paperwork. His advice to current students is to “keep on trying.” At the time of his visit he was scheduled to deploy to Iraq the next week. We wish him a safe deployment.

Ray Lozano- Drug and Alcohol Prevention Speaker
Ray Lozano is a “Drug and Substance Prevention Specialist and Youth Speaker.” He came to our school on March 6th to talk about the consequences of drug use and drinking. To get our attention, he made some jokes while he was telling us about what drugs and alcohol do to your brain. He also told us some sad stories about what happened to some young people who drank alcohol. He told us about his background, about how his brother went to jail for drug trafficking. After the assembly Junior Pacheco said that “He was brave because he saw his brother go to jail for life, for trying to pass cocaine.” Another student Daysi Altamirano said that “He was inspiring, for all the things he went through and he ended up successful and didn't do drugs like his sibling, even though he grew up in a house with drugs and alcohol.” All four alternative schools (Crossroads, Carpe Diem, Sonoma Mountain and San Antonio) came together at San Antonio High School to hear all the things Ray Lozano had to say about the use of drugs and drinking. Trevor Tomei
On Thursday March 15, Trevor Tomei came to San Antonio to talk to students about his past drug addiction. His main message was to not do drugs and that they were bad and would make your life go downhill. He was one of the coaches of the little league team of 2012 that went all the way to the world series. He lost his family and job and son before turning his life around in recovery. “It was interesting to hear someone else’s perspective on what they went through,” said Kiera Lager.
