We Will Move Mountains!

September Begins!
Parents, Guardians and Care Givers!
We have had a fabulous start to the school year! Scholars have been adjusting being back to school and we are so thrilled with the success of all the classrooms and scholars! This week we will begin testing scholars to see where they are academically and we will begin setting goals for reading and math with each scholar. We need your help to ensure that your children achieve their goals! At home, please take the time to:
- Read with your child or have your child read to you.
- Practice their sight words.
- Practice their math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division)
- Ask about their academic goals.
We are allowed to have volunteers this year and would love to have parents volunteer. If you are interested, please stop by the office and complete a volunteer form!
Please find a copy of the Parsons Family and Scholar Handbook using this link:

These two handbooks will answer many questions about expectations at Parsons and in Decatur Public Schools.
Let's make this a great school year!!

Attendance Challenge!
Attendance Challenge begins!!
Which classroom will have the BEST ATTENDANCE?
Each week we will be celebrating the class with the best attendance!
Will it be your child's classroom?
Remember that Tardies and Early Pickups do count against attendance.
Students who arrive after 7:45 are considered Tardy.
Students who leave early are counted absent for the amount of time left in the school day.
If your child arrives at 8:00 (Tardy) each day - they have missed
- 20 minutes of instruction that day
- 100 minutes of instruction for the week.
- 360 minutes of instruction for the school year.
Instruction begins at 7:40 each day.

Bus Expectations
Bus Expectations are as follows:
- Remain seated at all times
- Keep hands and feet to yourself.
- Use quiet or conversation voices.
- Keep backpacks closed.
- Food is not allowed on the bus.
- Follow the drivers directions.
These are basic safety rules that we know our scholars can follow. Our drivers simply want to get all scholars to and from school safely and we need all families to discuss and expect their children to follow these rules on the bus.
