ConVal High School Happenings - January 13, 2023
Message from Principal McKillop
Good Afternoon, Cougar Nation!
It is hard to believe that next Tuesday is the last day of semester one classes. Even though it was shared last week, our semester one final exam/project/experience schedule is included below. Please be sure to view the schedule and review again the modified bus routes.
I want to extend gratitude to our teaching and support staff who have been working hard with students as we come to a close of the semester. I also want to thank our students for asking questions and contributing so much to our school community. I look forward to seeing those that can join us at upcoming school events in the near future.
Have a wonderful weekend, and GO COUGARS!
Best,
Heather

Note: ALICE Seminar at ConVal High School January 19-20, 2023
As part of the ConVal School District's ongoing commitment to school safety, area law enforcement will conduct an ALICE seminar at the high school during the day on January 19-20. ALICE is a safety protocol that encompasses a list of options in the event of a violent intruder or other emergency. As a result, we expect an increase in police presence in the school parking lot on these two days. Student finals should not be impacted by the training which will take place in the Lucy Hurlin Theatre (LHT) during exam hours. We thank the district and area police departments for their dedication to keeping everyone safe at ConVal.
Classroom Snapshots!
Art Students' Final Presentations
This week in art, students began presenting their final reflective portfolios to their peers in 2D, 3D, and Ceramics classes. Presenters showed off their artwork, inspirations, and takeaways from the semester.
Mrs. Coyne's Business and Personal Law
Business and Personal Law students started reviewing for their final by crafting review questions in pairs. Pairs then paired up to form groups to review the student-generated questions as a whole class.
World Language Students of the Month
The World Language Department would like to announce the December World Language Students of the Month. These students have demonstrated key qualities of successful language learners: positive attitude, willingness to take academic risks, perseverance, curiosity, and successful collaboration. Congratulations to Jack Cilley (German), Ivy Armstrong-McEvoy (German), and Brayden Boice (Spanish).
ConVal Career & Technical Education
Using Solidworks, a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) application, students in Karen Fabianski’s Engineering Design III class create unique lanterns. The software is used to assemble the parts, transfer the CAD file to a two-dimensional .jpg file, and then convert it to a RoboDemo (.rd). The .rd file contains the computer instructions to control the speed and feed rate for a laser engraver/cutter to create the final design.

New Documentary About Holocaust Survivor
To Have New England Premiere at Park Theatre.
“Eva’s Promise” debuts in Jaffrey on Friday, January 13.
Filmmakers will attend the January 15 screening.
JAFFREY, New Hampshire (December 29, 2022). In 1944, on a train to Auschwitz, 17-year-old Heinz Geiringer told his sister Eva that he hid the paintings and poetry he created during his time in hiding beneath the attic floorboards. Heinz made Eva promise that if he should die in the camps, she would retrieve the belongings. Today, his story sits in the shadow of the better-known Diary of Anne Frank. After the war, Eva (Schloss) became a posthumous stepsister of Anne when her mother married Anne’s father. While the world knows Anne’s story, Eva’s Promise introduces Heinz, his artistry, and his sister’s efforts to find and share his remarkable legacy.
Eva’s Promise will make its New England debut at The Park Theatre in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, on Friday, January 13, and play through Thursday, January 19.
On Sunday, January 15 at 4 p.m., the film’s director, Steve McCarthy, and the producer, Susan Kerner, will attend the screening for a talkback after the film. A special video message from Eva Schloss to the Jaffrey audience will also be shown.
Eva is 93 and resides in London. In addition to Eva’s Promise, she was featured in Ken Burns’ recent documentary series, The U.S. and the Holocaust. She wrote the award-winning book, The Promise in 2006. Signed copies of the book will be available for sale at the theatre and all Toadstool Bookshops. Tickets for Eva’s Promise are $9/$8. The special talkback event will be $15/$10. They can be purchased in advance by visiting theparktheatre.org or calling the box office (603) 532-8888. Group sales and private screenings are available.
The Park Theatre performing arts center is located at 19 Main Street in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire. The facility is fully accessible.

About The Park Theatre: The Park Theatre first opened in Jaffrey in 1922 and was the center of community life as a cinema, vaudeville house, and concert venue for 54 years until it closed in 1976. The theatre was purchased by the newly formed Park Theatre nonprofit in 2006. It has been rebuilt as a state-of-the-art film and performing arts center, featuring two auditoriums seating 433. It presents movies, live theater (including children’s productions), concerts, and lectures. It offers a place for business and community gatherings for the Monadnock Region and its 100,000 residents, school districts, and dynamic artistic community. The new theatre complex began construction in January 2019 and was completed in 2020. It opened to the public on August 5, 2021.
