It Was a Great Weekend for Dragon Basketball!

Big picture
Two great basketball teams met up in Magazine on Saturday, March 6 to play for the AA West Regional Championship. The game stayed tight until the buzzer. In the end, Lavaca had the higher score by 2 points.

Our Dragons fought hard for four quarters. No matter what the plaque says, they are CHAMPIONS to us! It has been close to 40 years since a boys team has played for the regional championship. This team has set a precedent for other teams to follow.

Great job to Coach McDonald, Coach Nolen, and the 20-21 Sr. High Dragons Basketball team!

This season is one for the Dragon Basketball record books!!

The middle school book highlight for March is "Daugher of the White Rose"

Can a common girl save a prince trapped in the Tower of London?

April. England. 1483. The king is dead. Long live the king.

Nell Gould is the daughter of the royal butcher, a commoner, but she has been raised as the playmate of King Edward and Queen Elizabeth's royal children: Princess Cecily, Princess Bess, Prince Dickon, and Prince Ned, heir apparent and Nell's best and closest friend. They think alike, her and Ned, preferring books and jousts to finery and gossip and the sparkle of the court. But when King Edward dies, Prince Ned is imprisoned in the Tower of London by his scheming uncle, the evil Richard III--and Nell with him. Can they escape? Is Nell the key?

Join us as we continue to read this story for the rest of the month!

We will keep the historical theme going with this week's high school pick.

Germany, 1945. The soldiers who liberated the Gross-Rosen concentration camp said the war was over, but nothing feels over to eighteen-year-old Zofia Lederman. Her body has barely begun to heal; her mind feels broken. And her life is completely shattered: Three years ago, she and her younger brother, Abek, were the only members of their family to be sent to the right, away from the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Everyone else--her parents, her grandmother, radiant Aunt Maja--they went left.

She made a promise to her brother, but the deeper Zofia digs, the more impossible her search seems. How can she find one boy in a sea of the missing? In the rubble of a broken continent, Zofia must delve into a mystery whose answers could break her--or help her rebuild her world.

Stop by the library this week to check out this book and see how the story ends!
