Friday Flyer
Second Grade
Dear Second Grade Parents,
Welcome back from Spring Break! Your children look rested and ready to return to school.
We have begun researching for State Hats Day. We recently sent you information about this special event, which takes place on Friday, May 4. While we work on speeches, please start thinking about hats and snacks. Let us know if you have any questions.
We read a part of Martin Rising: Requiem for a King by Andrea Davis Pinkney and Brian Pinkney to think about the 50 years since the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. We talked about how he not only worked for civil rights but also for the rights of workers, which he was doing in Memphis at the time of his death. The children had some questions such as "Where is Memphis?" and "Why was he only staying at a motel and not a hotel when he was really famous?" We also talked about how many people did not agree with Dr. King's ideas, which is hard for us today to imagine.
Our Writers' Celebration for our arctic animal research reports takes place next Thursday. Third Graders will be our guests as they listen to the Second Graders read their reports aloud!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Emilia and Rachel
