Permenter Longhorn Check-In
Week of April 24- April 28, 2023
Orchestra Solo & Ensemble Spring Recital
8th Grade Career Fair Field Trip
Willy Wonka Jr. was a huge hit!
A Note from the Principal:
There are only 5 weeks left of school and each of those weeks are critical. There are no "free days" or "free periods" as every moment in an instructional setting is paramount.
A major shout out and THANK YOU is owed to our ELAR teachers for developing school-wide lessons for every content area. Our students experienced an ELAR Blitz Review in preparation for their ELAR STAAR. The theme was "ELAR Carnival" and the scholars had fun and engaging lessons to help calm nerves and review key concepts in all of their classes the day before the STAAR. Our 8th graders will experience that same opportunity on May 1st and May 3rd to get ready for their STAAR tests in science and social studies. We will repeat the success for all of our scholars on May 8th to prepare for their math STAAR test.
We have several key testing dates fast approaching. There is a short overview of key information in this newsletter in the form of a graphic. However, please be on the lookout for more detailed information from Mrs. Dawn this week regarding STAAR expectations and key areas of success.
Thursday, April 27th, is a district-sponsored STEMspired Family Night Out event at Collegiate Academy Middle and High School/Dr. Peggy M. Wilson STEM Center from 5-7 PM. Please complete the registration form to indicate you and your family will be attending. The form is found here.
Our CTE and Fine Arts departments absolutely glowed with excellence this week!
- 8th grade scholars from Bessie Coleman Middle School and Permenter Middle School participated in a Future Fair sponsored by the Communities Foundation of Texas.
- 40 of our CTE scholars were selected to participate in this event to meet employers, establish professional relationships, and postsecondary options and help scholars identify career interests that warrant further exploration.
- Thank you Coach Landry and Coach Henry for planning and escorting our scholars to this incredible event.
- Our Orchestra Scholars participated in their Solo & Ensemble Spring Recital at CHHS.
- Both the scholars and director had magnificent performances!
- Thank you Mr. Miranda for your commitment, tenacity and devotion to expanding Permenter's orchestra program.
- May 1st is the date of the Orchestra Spring Concert and they would love your support. The concert will be at Cedar Hill High School.
- Our Drama Geeks held 4 superb Willie Wonka Jr. performances in Hawkins Hall. It was an instant classic and the director, cast and crew were amazing!

A Note from CHHS Athletics:
Dear Scholars and Parents:
We want to ensure all scholars have the opportunity to take part in all events across the district. To ensure scholars are admitted into all athletic events at Cedar Hill High School, all scholars must present a non-torn digital ticket and their current school ID at the student gate. Additionally, all elementary and middle school scholars must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the entirety of the game. These scholars will enter through the general admission gate. All scholars are welcome to attend and we hope they come to support all of our Longhorn scholar athletes!
