First invented in 1876 by Alexander G. Bell and further developed by many others, the telephone was the first device in history that enabled people to talk directly with each other across large distances. Telephones rapidly became indispensable to businesses, government, and households, and are today some of the most widely used small appliences
The purpose of the telephone is to audibly communicate with other people who are far away instantly and efficiently. Before the telephone, long distance communication was done with telegraph machines which were less efficient and took longer to get messages across since only dots and dashes could be communicated
