A Letter From the Principal
Happy New Year and welcome 2021! As we enter this new year, I can't help but feel so grateful for all of the amazing families and staff members that make up this school community. As I was walking around campus on the day that we returned from break, everyone was working so hard and our familiar routines of learning had quickly fallen back in place. I can't wait to see what amazing things happen here in 2021!
As we wrap up quarter 2, students in grades 3-5 will be taking the Quarter 2 Benchmark Assessments. Please see the schedule below to check for the times your child will be taking these assessments. Additionally, students who are continuing virtually will be asked to come on campus at a scheduled time to take these tests. As always, our students perform best when they have had a good night of sleep, eat a good breakfast, and start the day off with lots of encouragement to do their best.
We also have picture day scheduled for January 25th this year. Students are still required to wear uniforms on this day. We will be communicating with virtual families about a time they can bring their students in for pictures as well. These are the pictures that will be used for the yearbook.
Thank you so much for your continued support in the education of your child. I would love to hear some of your thoughts and get some feedback about how you feel things are going here at MDE. Please take a moment to complete the 4 question survey using the link below. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and working with you in 2021!
Sincerely,
Melissa Stamper, Principal

Buddy Reading
Why 20 Minutes?
Students often ask why they are assigned 20 minutes of reading every night. Have you also ever wondered why?
Let’s face it…parents (and kids) are busy! It is difficult to “fit in” all that needs to be done in a day. We are often faced with having to make choices about what stays and what goes in our schedules. So, why is it so critical to include reading in your child’s daily schedule? There is a wealth of research supporting why at least 20 minutes of daily reading is critical. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words: therefore, I hope that the visual below will solidify the answer to the preceding question.
