Prepare to SOAR!

So you just started your own business... You may be feeling a bit overwhelmed thinking about where you should begin, so I've compiled a few tasks you should complete in your first week as a designer to help get you started:

  • Ask your mentor if she has any upcoming Jewelry Bars that you can shadow. If s/he doesn't, ask her if s/he can help you find someone who does. Shadowing another designer's Jewelry Bar allows you to see how fun and easy it is to provide women an exciting experience with their friends and family.

  • Select a date and time for your Debut Jewelry Bar. It doesn't have to be in your home. Many designers launch their businesses successfully with the help of a friend or family member or even at a small local business or restaurant.

  • Create a list of contacts. You may think that you don't know very many people but you would be surprised! The A.L.I.C.E. worksheet is a great place to start!

  • Purchase business cards through our approved vendor Flyers Direct. This is Origami Owl's only approved vendor for business cards. If you want to purchase through a different vendor, you must get approval by emailing marketing@origamiowl.com. Send them the name of the company, website (if possible), and the proof.

  • Create a separate business email account. Using terms like Origami Owl, O2, or Living Lockets are not permitted. Please refer to the polices and procedures for a full list of prohibited words and phrases.

  • Sign up to get paid through Pay Quicker and read the fees chart. You will get an owldorable debit card in the mail with our Origami Owl logo.

  • Look into getting a free credit card swiper for your smartphone. I like Square, but others are PayAnywhere and Paypal. Make sure the swiper you choose is compatible with your phone.

  • Record your out going voicemail message on your phone to promote your business. Make sure it is professional. (Ex. "Hi this is Suzanne Smith, Independent Origami Owl Designer. I am so sorry I missed your call, but if you would, leave your name, phone number and a brief message and I will return your call just as soon as possible.")

  • Organize your calendar and identify the dates you are available to hold Origami Owl parties or events. You may not fill them all, but you want to be able to give your potential hostesses a choice. Aim for 4-6 Jewelry Bars in your first 6 -8 weeks!

  • Log into your back office and view the documents under New Designer Training. From the dashboard, hover your mouse over Tools and click on Document Library from the drop down menu. Scroll down and click on New Designer Training.

  • Log into your back office and view the videos on how to navigate around the back office. There are 23 videos, however they are short clips that you can watch at your leisure and as you need them. From the dashboard, hover your mouse over Tools and click on Document Library from the drop down menu. Scroll down and click on New System Training and you will find all 23 documents with a link to watch an accompanying video at the bottom of each.

  • Designate a workspace. It does not need to be grand or elaborate. Many great business started in a small closet or dining room table. You need some place that you can keep everything together and “go to work”.

  • Update your FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest or Google+ account to reflect your new business. List your company in your work history and be sure to post your new website! Consider creating a Facebook business page that can focus on your new venture and serve as a place to share imagery, ideas and information. Make sure that your fan page complies with Origami Owl's Policies and Procedures.
