What's Happening in our Classrooms?
ELA
Math
Hello from the math department. Now that we are in the second semester, the students are comfortable with the curriculum and the materials we use for teaching. Below is a quick overview of the current topics for each math level.
Math 6 continues to figure out volume and surface area. These students are also using strategies to solve long division problems.
The Accelerated Math 6 class is solving problems and understanding ratios.
The Double Accelerated Math 6 class is following the 8th grade topics. They are translating linear graphs, determining the slopes of the line, constructing tables and graphing the values to model linear relationships. They are also comparing linear relationships using tables, graphs and equations.
Math 7 students are finding the percent increase and decrease between values. They are applying this knowledge of percents to solve problems involving taxes, commission, sales tax and income tax.
The Accelerated Math 7 classes are working on understanding the concept of systems of equations. They are interpreting and analyzing solutions.
PreAlgebra students are translating linear graphs, determining the slopes of the line, constructing tables and graphing the values to model linear relationships. They are also comparing linear relationships using tables, graphs and equations.
Algebra students are solving systems of inequalities. They will be moving into the topic of exponents and exponential functions.
Pre-AP Geometry students are solving problems with transformations.
All math students should be working on Mathia and the Maps Accelerator programs. Both of these programs are online. Mathia is set to provide practice for the current topics being taught in the math classes. Maps Accelerator is a program that provides practice for each student at their own level. For instance, if they are in grade 7, but they have all the skills for 7th grade, then Maps will move to a topic at a higher level. This also helps students understand concepts they may have missed. If a student in grade 7 is struggling with a 5th grade concept, the Maps program will give that student practice problems on that topic. Both of these programs will help your child become more successful with math.
Today’s Riddle: At the time of shipping, Bob can place 10 small boxes or 8 large boxes into a carton. A total of 96 boxes were sent in one shipment. The number of small boxes was less than large boxes. What is the total number of cartons he shipped?
If you can solve the riddle, please tell Mrs. Wapneski, room 808, what the solution is and she will give you a prize. Good Luck!!

Face Masks Required for INDOOR schooling during the school day and at INDOOR after school events
For purposes of this protocol, approved face masks include homemade or store-bought cloth face masks, surgical masks, or transparent/clear face masks that cover the individual’s face from the bridge of the nose to snugly under the chin and fit snugly against the sides of the face with no gaps for air to enter or exit. Face masks must comply with all applicable CCSD policies, regulations, and dress codes pertaining to student and staff attire.
Types of Face Masks
Face masks with one-way valves or vents are not allowed unless covered with a cloth face mask (one-way valves allow air to be exhaled through the valve).
Face masks are recommended to be made with multiple layers (current recommendations are two layers of tightly woven cloth (cotton preferred) and one layer of synthetic material that can be repeatedly washed.
Standard face/neck gaiters (minimal filtration) and bandanas, which do not correctly cover the nose and mouth, may only be worn if layered.
Face shields are not a replacement for face masks, given concerns over their inability to minimize droplets spread to others. A surgical or cloth mask must be worn under a shield unless an accommodation has been granted.
The following types of masks are NOT allowed
Face Shields are not allowed
Face Masks with Vents or Valves are not allowed
Mesh Masks are not allowed
